INTRODUCTION TO 3DS MAX
3ds Max is a professional 3D modelling animation, and rendering software developed by
Autodesk. It is widely used in industries such as game development and television production,
architecture and product design. Known for its powerful tools and flexibility. 3ds Max offers an
extensive range of features to create realistic models, animations and visualizations.

ü Sphere
Ø A Sphere is a perfect 3D round object, defined by its radius.
Ø It's commonly used for modeling balls, planets, or any object that requires a round shape.
Ø Shortcut: Create > Geometry >Standard Primitives > Sphere
i. Attributes:
Ø Radius.
Ø Segments (Latitude and Longitude).
• In 3ds Max, extended primitives are a set of specialized 3D shapes that go beyond the
standard basic primitives like cubes, spheres, and cones. These extended primitives provide
more complex geometries and are used for creating detailed models with less effort
compared to modeling from scratch. Here's an overview of the extended primitives in 3ds
Max:
i. Extended Primitives (in the Command Panel):• These are available in the Create tab under
Geometry. When you select the "Extended Primitives" option, you can choose from a
variety of complex shapes that aren't available as standard primitives.
ii. Types of Extended Primitives :
Ø Chamfer Box: A box with chamfered corners, useful for creating objects like blocks with
rounded edges.
Ø ConeTorus: A hybrid shape that combines a cone and torus, creating an object resembling
a funnel with a hole in it.
Ø Hedra: A shape that represents a polyhedron, and it can be customized to create various
kinds of multi-faced geometries.
Ø Ring: A simple ring-shaped geometry, often used in mechanical or architectural designs.
Ø SplineCircle: A circle made from (a curve), useful for creating smooth, curved shapes.
Ø Torus Knot: It is used to create a complex or knotted torus by drawing 2D curves in the
normal planes around a 3D curve. The 3D curve (called the Base Curve) can be either a
circle or a torus knot.

TRANSFORMING OBJECTS:
Selected objects can be moved, rotated and scaled. These transforms can be accessed by using
the icons on the main toolbar or by pressing the hot keys W [Move], E [Rotate] and R [Scale].
Each transforms used a color-coded gizmo. Red transforms along the x-axis, green along the y-
axis and blue along the z-axis. Clicking and dragging in the center of the gizmo transforms the
object on all available axis, while clicking in the box connecting two axis transforms on only
those two axis.

SHORTCUTS TO USE IN 3DS MAX
Here are some useful keyboard shortcuts to enhance your workflow in 3ds Max. These
shortcuts can help speed up tasks like selecting, transforming, and navigating your scene.
• Selection And Navigation
i. Q: Select object (Toggle selection mode).
ii. W: Move Tool.
iii. E: Rotate Tool.
iv. R: Scale Tool.
v. F: Zoom to Extents
