Structure
of Descriptive Text
When writing descriptive text, there are some generic structures
(actually not mandatory) for our writing to be true. The
arrangement is:
1. Identification: (contains about the introduction of a person,
place, animal or object will be described.)
ex: My father just bought a new car for me. That car has been long
on my wishlist.
2. Description: contains a description of something such as
animal, things, place or person by decribing its features, forms,
colors, or anything related to what the writer describe.
ex: My new car is one of the latest sport cars from Italy. The car is
a two passenger-seat model or sedan car, the one seat is for the
driver and the other is for a single passenger.
Language Feature of
Descriptive Text.
1. Specific participant : has a certain object, is
not common and unique (only one). for

Borobudur temple, uncle Jim
2. The use of the adjective (an adjective) to
clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful
beach, a handsome man, the famous place in
jepara, etc.
3. The use of simple present tense: The sentence
pattern used is simple present because it tells
the fact of the object described.

Characteristics
Descriptive Text
1.Using the Simple Present Tense. Why use the simple present tense? this isbecause we will describe a
fact or truth that is attached to something or someone. And one of the functions of the simple present
is to illustrate a fact or truth (eg fact:the sun is hot). Therefore, you should always use the first form of
the verb (verb-1).Your example will illustrate the properties of your new car: The color of my car
isblack, it can run up to 500 km / hour.

2.Because of its function is to describe something by explaining its properties, then the text will be
found many descriptive adjectives (adjective), as handsome, beautiful, tall, small, big, or if the adjective
is derived from the verb, then you will findadditional -ve, -ing, -nt in tow,Example: Create (create)>
creative (smart people make something).Interest (interest)> interesting (something interesting)

3.In the descriptive text we will often find Relating verb (copula) which is (as incharacteristic number 1).
In Indonesian is often interpreted as "is". Because thepurpose or function descriptive text is to
describe, then definitely we will often findthe word was (is). His name is Andy (his name was Andy), his
height is 160 cm(height is 160 cm).
Descriptive Text has several linguistic
characteristics or Language Features
1.Using Simple Present Tense
Because its function is to describe something where the characteristics or characteristics of the
object or thing will not change, Descriptive Text uses the Simple Present Tense. Example: This car is a
Kombi one. This car has a cloth sunroof and two doors on its one side.

2.Using adjectives
Describing or describing something will be easier to understand if you use adjectives so that the thing
we are describing can be imagined more realistically. Example: This car is red and cream, the chairs
are good.

3.Using connecting words (Linking Verb)

Conjunctions are words that connect the subject with the explanatory word. Connecting words can be
to be (is, am, are) or others, such as seem, look, appear, sound, etc.
three important aspects
in descriptive text:
1. Adjectives: The use of adjectives is very important to provide
details about the object, place, or person being described.
Adjectives help clarify and enrich descriptions, so readers can
imagine them better.
2. ·Descriptive Language: This includes the use of vivid and
interesting language to create a strong image in the reader's
mind. Selecting appropriate words and using sensory elements
(such as colors, sounds, and smells) enhances the reader's
experience.
3. ·Personality: In description, personality can include unique
characteristics or nuances that make the object or person
stand out. This can include the author's delivery or perspective
that adds color to the description, making it feel more alive and
interesting.

These three aspects work together to produce strong and

impressive descriptive text
