Layout of individual and group assignments

All assignments must confirm to the following layout.

a) General layout
The project must be typed on an A4 paper with margins of 1 inch from top, bottom, right hand and
left hand. The typescript must be of Times New Roman 12 and spaced 1.5 lines apart. All pages
and text should be numbered in the Centre at the bottom of each page. All paragraphs should be
justified at both sides. All the projects have to run through the spell and grammar checks.

b) Table of contents
A table of contents must be provided at the beginning of each assignment. A table of contents
provides the framework of the study. Normally, the headings are listed but if the report is long and
complex the subheadings are also to be mentioned in the content. Appendices (if any) are treated
as part of the text for this purpose and should also be listed in table of contents.

c) Tables and figures

All tables and figures should be numbered as follows:
Table 1.1; table 1.2 etc. Figure 1.1, Figure 1.2 etc. the table/ figure should also be named in such
a way that a reader is able to understand what it is all about.

d) Title page/front cover

The title page/ front cover should contain the following information: Students name; course; class;
assignment title, Faculty guide’s name, etc.

e) Abstract
The title page should be immediately followed by an abstract (not more than 150 words) giving a
summary of the nature and scope of the project.

f) Other components of the report

Introduction to the topic, objective, methodology, theoretical framework, observation, finding and
conclusion should find a mention in the report. The components mentioned can vary slightly
depending on the type of topic.

g) Citation and references

Citation describes any formal mention that you make in a written work of yours to something
written by someone else. You should always cite your source whenever you are reporting
someone else’s work or using their terminology. Inadequate citation could leave you open to
suspicion of plagiarism (which results in a mark zero).

All references should be quoted in APA style and included in the references. The bibliography (if
there is one) is inserted between the conclusions and any appendix (if any). The following layout
should be used:
