b.What will be the colour of the basic solution after adding phenopthalein
indicator ?
i)Natural indicators
ii)Synthetic indicators
Some bases dissolve in water. Those bases which dissolves in water are
known as alakis. Eg- washing soda(contanig sodium bicarbonate) is an
example of a alakis.
Test tube turns hot after a neturlisation reaction because the reaction
between acid and base to form salt and water is called neturlisation. In
neturlisation heat is evolved. The evolved heat raises the temprtaure of
the reactive mixture (exothermic reaction). A neturlisation can be
represented by following equation.
The acidic and basic nature of a substance can be tested with the help of
indicators.
Naturally occuring indicators are litmus, tumeric, china rose, red cabbage and
synthetic indicators are methyll orange, phenolphthalein and universal indicator.
Lichens
2.What is the test for the acida and bases using methyll orange indicator.
Picture Study
Hydrochrolic acid
3.If a solution changes the colour of red litmus paper to blue, what can you say
about its PH?
Its PH will be more than 7 as only basic solution can change the colour
of the red litmus paper to blue. And the PH scale ranges from 8 – 14 is
basic the more the value more alankine of the basic solution.
The saliva pH value before the meal is 7.4 which is basic, but after
the meal the pH value of saliva becomes 5.8 which is less than
seven. After each meal, the sugar in food items will break down to
corresponding acids by the action of bacteria, as acidity increases,
the pH decreases. The saliva can help neutralize the acid, but eating
acidic food can increase the acidity of the mouth.
