store the data onto the medium and then
reads data from it.

Storage:
1. Magnetic storage and media
2. Optical Storage and media
3. Solid State Storage media and
devices
§ A. MAGNETIC STORAGE MEDIA AND DEVICES
Magnetic storage media hold data magnetically and include hard
disk drives and magnetic tape.
a.1. Hard disk drives
A hard disk drive is currently the
Main storage device on most personal
Computers.
Advantage of hdd
-they can store very large amounts of data
-they are very low cost.
Disadvantage of hdd
-they are slower to read and write than solid state.
-they can be noisy
-they can be easily damage by any shock.
a.2. Fixed and Portable hard disk drives
Fixed HDD are permanently connected to the
computer.

Portable HDD are separate from the main

computer. They can be moved from computer
to Computer.

§ It is small enough to carry with you.
Disadvantages
§ They can be damaged as they are moved.

And reading of data can be done at the
Same time. (DVD –RAM)
3. SOLID STATE STORAGE MEDIA AND DEVICES

§ Solid states storage media use Flash memory, which makes them faster
than fixed hard disks.

replacing HDD as main storage devices of Desktop and Laptops.
Advantages
