COURSE OBJECTIVES
The Students will learn the following:
1. To use different information retrieval techniques in various application areas
2. To apply IR principles to locate relevant information large collections of data
3. To analyze performance of retrieval systems when dealing with unmanaged data
sources
4. To implement retrieval systems for web search tasks.
COURSE OUTCOMES
After the successful completion of the course, the students would be able to:
1. Understand the basics of web search
2. Identify the data structures like Inverted Indices used in Information retrieval systems
3. Apply the different techniques on compression of index including the dictionary and its posting list
4. Understand and Apply various text search algorithms
5. Identify the evaluation metrics of information system

Information presentation Introduction, Presentation of the hits, Display of the Item, Collaborative Filtering,

Text Search Algorithms
Introduction, Software text search algorithms, Hardware text search systems.
Introduction, Measures used in system evaluations, Multimedia Information retrieval Evaluation, Measurement
example TREC Evolution.
