Time : 1hr 30mints Marks : 35

1. (a) Derive the expression for magnetic field intensity along the axis of a
circular current carrying conductor. 3
(b) What is the magnetic field intensity at O? 1
(c) If the number of turns of a moving coil Galvanometer
Is increased, How does the voltage sensitivity gets affected? 1

2. (a) A wire is of radius r and is carrying current I uniformly along its cross
section. Find the ratio of magnetic field intensity at a distance of r/2 outside
the surface to r/2 inside the surface. 1
(b) Two parallel wires are carrying currents i1 & i2 (i1 > i2) in same
direction and are separated by d. Write the expression of magnetic field in
between them at midpoint and force experienced per unit length by any of
them. 2
(c) What is Lorentz Force?
A Proton and Deuteron enters an uniform magnetic field with same velocity
perpendicular to it. Find the ratio of the radius of the circular path that they
take. 1 + 1

3. (a) Find the expression of magnetic field intensity at O.

(consider the magnets to be similar having dipole moment M
And length negligible. Their centre of mass is separated by 2d). 2
(b) You are provided with 3 magnetic substances A, B, C. When
temperature is increased to double the room temperature Susceptibility of A &
B does not change but for C it decreases. What can you infer about the nature
of B? Are A and B similar? If not how can you differentiate between them? 2
(c) Draw a Hysteresis curve and state does the area within this curve
physically signifies?

4. (a) Explain the working principle of AC Generator. 2

(b) This is how a magnetic field varies
Through an area of 5 m2. Draw the
corresponding induced emf vs time curve. 2
(c)

A constant current flows through the straight wire as shown in figure. Write
the direction of induced current in the coil if the loop is pulled up with
constant velocity. 1

5. (a) What is Eddy Current ? State 2 of its use. 2

(b) A circular ring of area 2m2 have 20 turns and a square loop of area
8 m2 have 10 turns. Resistance of the shapes are 30 ohm. If the current in the
square loop decrease to zero from 6 A in 10 seconds, find the current in the
circular loop. 2
(c) Write the expression relating Mutual inductance of two coils with the
self-inductances of individuals. 1

6. (a) Across a Pure inductor of 5mH, a source of (220V, 50Hz) is connected.

What is the power developed across the inductor? 1
(b) Derive an expression for frequency of an LC Oscillator. 2
(c) Potential drop across L, C, R of a LCR circuit are all 10V individually. If
the Capacitor is short-circuited, how will the potential drop across the inductor
vary? Explain. 2

7. (a) Student A and student B performed separate

experiments on series Resonating circuits and obtained the
following graphs. Who among A & B have made better resonating circuit?
Justify.
What possible changes were made in the circuit by B to achieve this? 3
(b) Find the impedance of the given circuit when there
is no phase difference between V and I. Also find the frequency.
