What I have learned:
To begin with, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned in MGT 402 subject. Naturally, when we
discuss management, we delve into topics related to organization, skills, and personal development.
So, let’s focus on the thing I learned in this subject, which is about organization. This topic has taught
me how to effectively manage an organization and the important skills needed to enhance its
performance. As a result, I’ve come to realize that I have used these skills before, even if I wasn’t
aware of their specific names, such as Planning, Organizing, Leadership, and Control (P.O.L.C).
Whether consciously or subconsciously, I have employed those skills in the past. Additionally, I've
also learned how to apply these skills effectively in my current job.
The take away:
In this subject, there are about 12 topics that we cover. However, what I find most valuable in
this subject are leadership and communication skills. These two skills are especially crucial for me in
my current role within the organization. While I acknowledge that the other skills are also important,
these two take precedence given my position. This is because, in my day-to-day work, I need to
manage the warehouse team to ensure operations run smoothly and reduce customer complaints.
By honing these skills, I can enhance my ability to lead the team effectively and contribute to the
company’s vision and progress.
The skills acquired from this subject:
As mentioned earlier, my current role requires strong leadership skills, especially in
communication, control, and decision-making. Leading a team can be challenging, particularly when
team members have diverse personalities and speak different languages, which can create
communication barriers. These challenges can impact teamwork and productivity, making it harder
to align the team’s efforts. However, the skills I’ve gained from this subject have helped me manage
these difficulties more effectively. I have improved my communication abilities and decision-making,
ensuring the team stays focused on common goals. The planning techniques I learned have allowed
me to organize tasks and prioritize efforts better. These skills have boosted my confidence in my
leadership abilities I now feel more equipped to guide the team and contribute to organization
success.
Skill I will using in the future:
Certainly, I will be utilizing and applying some of the skills I've learned in this subject in the
future, as they align with my career plans. My goal is to reach a mid-level management position, such
as a marketing manager. Therefore, I believe that the P.O.L.C skills—Planning, Organizing, Leadership,
and Control—will be essential in my career. I realize that these skills are incredibly valuable when you
become a team leader or are situated within middle management. In 2021, my superiors entrusted
me with the responsibilities of a store manager at CU Mart in Banting, Selangor. This experience
highlighted the significance of the P.O.L.C skills in such a role. In this section, I will apply the
leadership skill to inspire and motivate the team to give their best effort. to perform at their best.
Because, A good leader communicates the vision clearly, sets achievable goals, and fosters a
collaborative and supportive environment. For example, by addressing team concerns and
recognizing individual contributions, a leader builds trust and encourages accountability within the
group.
Along with that, In the future, I will use control skills to manage my organization and team
effectively, ensuring everything runs smoothly and goals are met. These skills will help me monitor
progress, address any problems quickly, and keep the team focused and productive. For example, I
will work to reduce customer complaints by solving issues and improving processes. I’ll also ensure
the team manages their time well and maintains a positive attitude, helping everyone stay on track
and achieve our goals together.
the benefits that I acquired from this subject:
Studying this topic has profoundly impacted me, helping me overcome challenges related to
insecurity and introversion that once made me feel as though my contributions to my team and
organization were insignificant. The knowledge and strategies I’ve gained have boosted my
confidence and motivation, enabling me to recognize my unique strengths and approach my
responsibilities with greater efficiency and clarity. In particular, the emphasis on planning and
organization has transformed how I manage my workload, making me more productive and allowing
me to prioritize tasks effectively during business hours. As a result, I’ve not only improved my
performance but have also received positive feedback from my supervisor, which has further
reinforced my self-esteem and inspired me to excel. This subject has been invaluable in equipping me
with the tools to handle my duties confidently, contribute meaningfully, and grow both personally
and professionally.
Best about this subject:
The most commendable aspect of this subject, I must acknowledge my esteemed lecturer
DR. MASRUR BIN MOHD KHIR. I truly appreciate and feel fortunate to be one of his students because
he effectively imparts knowledge at a brisk pace, yet I grasp everything he shares quite well.
Additionally, his extensive experience within the organization draws me to the insights he provides. I
love how he explains about all the topic in this subject clearly and detail that make me more
understand the topic that we discuss perfectly. And I love how he guides and monitor the student in
complete their assessment so that the student can complete and submit the assessment on time.
Although the best aspect of this subject is also the topic itself. Learning more about
management is something I enjoy doing because it will help me become a better version of myself.
This subject provides a detailed explanation of the skills we need to use to management and
organization. Additionally, train me how to effectively apply those skills to management. For an
example of how I can arrange my team and my job in the organize topic. As a result, myself and team
is currently able to finish the tasks more easily and the process is more efficient than it was
previously. Thus, this is the subject's best feature.
Suggestion for improvement for this subject:
In my opinion, it would be helpful to allocate more time for this topic. DR. MASRUR
explained the subject matter well during the first class, but there is a lot to cover in a limited amount
of time. This time pressure can make it difficult for the lecturer to explain everything thoroughly. DR.
MASRUR M is very effective in her teaching, but more time would allow for a slower pace. This would
give students a better understanding and the chance to ask questions. Overall, additional time would
enhance learning and engagement. Othe than that, as a representative of UITM students, I hope to
see improvements in internet access. In Puncak Alam, many students struggle with unreliable mobile
data connections. I recommend that UITM upgrade its Wi-Fi service to help students, especially for
online tests and digital attendance cause poor connectivity can delay tests and affect grades, which
could harm students’ success. By addressing this issue, UITM can provide better support for students
and enhance its reputation.
