Most businesses have one goal or the other when spending time and/or money marketing on
social media. They either focus on getting a lot of followers and a lot of engagement, or they are
knee-deep in direct response data, split testing, and data mining for how to get more sales.
Just as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were born out of a foolish need to decide between chocolate
or peanut butter (both, of course!), so too, is it to choose money over building a tribe.
When I started writing “The Ultimate Guide for Instagram for Business,” to be published by
Entrepreneur Publishing, 2017, I only had 360 or so fans. I had a little engagement and certainly
wasn’t making any money with my account.
Over the course of 3 months, using no ad spend, I grew the account to over 5,000 followers and
have new email subscribers who fit my perfect prospect list coming in organically (i.e., free-
skies!) every day.
Here’s your 21-Day Instagram challenge to grow your followers. (And if you want more on how

Day 1
• Research 20 brands in your niche, and write down the hashtags they use.
• Get a good night’s sleep; you have an empire to build.
Day 2
• Develop a brand board with the look and design elements you want on your page.
• Take a nap. Because you can.
Day 3
• Design your posts for the month using the Word Swag app.
• Buy an artist’s smock because you are now officially a “creative type.”
Day 5
• Post your first post, writing a good description and using the hashtags you found to be
popular in your niche. Prevent yourself from cursing out your phone by typing the

• Do some additional research on hashtags, and test adding some new ones to the mix.
• Run a post, and add the new hashtags to the post description.
• Like the posts of 10 followers of others in your niche, and comment with emojis.
• Start making a hashtag symbol in the air when others high-five you. After all, you’ve got to
be in it to win it and might as well start a trend.
Day 13
• Test run two posts in one day today to see what happens to engagement.
• Like 10 other accounts, and comment with emojis.
• If Doublemint gum is still a thing, chew it in honor of doubling up your efforts.
Day 14
• Analyze the double posts to see if that should continue or stop. Post accordingly.
• Analyze your progress with your auto-follow program. Add or subtract the brands to target.
• Smirk to yourself, for how cool you are and how well this is going.

For the image, I love WORD SWAG. It is a $4 app for your iPhone or Android, and it is full of
stock photos for no extra charge. Make one with your title on it, again to make the page look
even more professional.
Add a link at the bottom of where to go next. If you have a Contact Us page, or giveaway to
get opt-ins, that works great. If not, you can simply send them to your Facebook page or
LinkedIn Profile. Just make sure you always give them a place to go next because if they get
all the way to the bottom, they are interested and you want to be sure to leverage that. Save
and publish.

has. This is where you want to reference the pain points you listed in the blog template.
