● 5. Fast food chains have been around for years. White Castle was the first fast-food restaurant, which opened in 1921. McDonalds opened much
later, in 1940. Chick-fil-A followed in 1946.
● A. Ruth Graves invented chocolate chip cookie for her hotel, the Toll House Inn, in 1938. She first made the cookies by chopping up a Nestle
chocolate bar. By 1941, Nestle began selling chocolate in chip form.
● b. Mario was first seen in the Nintendo game Donkey Kong. Later, he was featured in his own game, Super Mario Brothers.
● v. When starting a race, swimmers stand on the starting block. When the starter says, “take your mark,” the swimmers kneel down into starting
position. Then, an alarm buzzes, and swimmers dive in.

● 2. Unlike Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s also sells hamburgers. Both serve fries, but Chick-fil-A only serves waffle fries.

of dough can be spread into a pan and baked to make cookie bars.

● B. In 1938, baker Ruth Graves didn’t have any cocoa powder to make her famous chocolate cookies, so she chopped up a chocolate bar and put
the chunks into her recipe.
● a. In Super Mario Brothers, Bowser steals Princess and locks her up in a castle, and Mario and Luigi work together to save her from him!
● iv. Since chlorine can irritate a swimmer’s eyes, goggles were designed to keep water out of swimmers’ eyes.

● 4. Since more and more people are becoming health-conscious, fast food restaurants are beginning to offer healthy alternatives to burgers and fries
and looking at how they can improve items.
● E. Chocolate chip cookies have become a staple dessert. They are a go-to recipe for many people. Businesses such as Crumbl and Twisted Sugar
have now capitalized on selling cookies too!
● c. There are coins located throughout the game. Mario can collect these coins to get an extra life. This impacts the game by making the coins
valuable and worth gathering.
● iii. If a swimmer spends too much time in the pool, their hair may turn green from the chlorine causing them to have to do hair treatments or wear a
swim cap.
