Exercise 4 – Text along a Path (self-
learning)
1. Create a New Image.

2. Choose the Paths Tool.

3. Click on the starting point and then the ending point.

4. Click and drag any point of the line to edit the shape.

5. Choose the Text Tool.

6. Type “Testing: Text along a path”.

7. Choose Layer -> Text along Path.

8. Select the Path Panel. Right-click the layer, and then choose Path to Selection.

9. Click on the visibility icon on both paths. A regular selection will then be around the text.

A new layer can be created and Bucket Fill tool can be used to fill the text.

10. To export the changes, on the menu, choose File -> Export As.
Set ``ex4.png” as the file name, and then click the Export button.

Exercise 5 - Photo Editing

1. Open an image as a new layer. (You may choose any image.)

2. In GIMP, the contrast of an image could be adjusted in different ways.


Right-click the image, and then choose Colors -> Color Balance.

The color levels of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow could be adjusted independently.

3. On the menu, choose Edit -> Undo Color Balance to undo the change.

4. Right-click the image, and then choose Colors -> Levels.

5. Move the markers on Input Levels. (Move the left marker to right, and then move the
right marker to left.)

6. On the menu, choose Edit -> Undo Levels to undo the change.

7. Right-click the image, and then choose Colors -> Brightness and Contrast.

8. Adjust the values for Brightness and Contrast.

9. On the menu, choose Edit -> Undo Brightness-Contrast to undo the change.

10. Right-click the image, and then choose Colors -> Curves.

11. To export the changes, on the menu, choose File -> Export As.
Set ``ex5a.png” as the file name, and then click the Export button.
Close the file.

12. Open an image as a new layer. (You may choose any image.)

13. Create a new transparent layer.

14. Use the Free Select Tool to select the sky area.

15. Choose the Bucket Fill Tool.

17. Set the fill color to the selected region.

Exercise 6 – Scissors Select

1. Open the image “blossom.jpg” as a new layer.

2. Choose the Scissors Select Tool.

4. Choose the Foreground Select Tool.

5. On the menu, choose Select -> Invert.

6. Choose the Bucket Fill Tool.

8. On the Tool Options panel, set BG color fill as the Fill Type.

9. Click the background area of the image.

10. On the menu, choose Layer -> Transparence -> Add Alpha Channel.

11. On the menu, choose Edit -> Clear.

Set ``ex6.png” as the file name, and then click the Export button.
