1 a A 100 V lamp has a hot resistance of 250 Ω. Find the current taken by the 2 CO1 KL3
lamp and its power rating in watts. Also calculate the energy it will consume
in 24 hours.
b State Kirchoff’s voltage and current law. 2 CO1 KL2

c Draw the symbols for npn and pnp transistors. What will be the biasing 2 CO4 KL2
required in the input and output side for a common-base configuration for a
transistor to operate in saturation and cut-off mode?
d In a series R-L circuit 2 CO2 KL1

i) voltage drops across R and L are in phase


ii) voltage drop across L leads the voltage drop across R by 90°
iii) voltage drop across L lags behind the voltage drop across R by 90°
iv) voltage drops across R and L are in phase opposition
e Explain the working principle of piezoelectric transducers. 2 CO5 KL3

2 a Find the current in and voltage across 2 Ω resistor in the figure shown below: 5 CO1 KL4

b A 50Ω resistor, a 20mH coil and a 5uF capacitor are all connected in parallel 5 CO2 KL3
across a 50V, 100Hz supply. Calculate the total current drawn from the
supply, the current for each branch, the total impedance of the circuit and the
phase angle. Also construct the phasor diagram.
c Draw and explain the input and output characteristics for a common-base 5 CO4 KL3
silicon transistor amplifier.
3 a Find current in the 4-ohm resistor by any three methods for the circuit shown 5 CO1 KL4
in the figure shown below using Norton’s theorem:

b Explain positive and negative coupling in a transformer. Also provide 5 CO3 KL2
detailed explanation of Hysteresis losses in a real transformer.
c Draw the schematic for two types of configurations in a three-phase 5 CO3 KL3
transformer. Also explain the different types of connections used for the
implementation of three-phase transformer.
4 a Differentiate between: (a) Direct band gap and Indirect band gap 5 CO4 KL5
semiconductors and (b) Intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors.
b What is a p-n junction diode? and explain its working before applying any 5 CO4 KL6
bias to it. Also explain the impact of forward-bias and reverse-bias on the
diode.
c In the current-voltage characteristics of p-n junction diode, what is knee 5 CO4 KL4
voltage, reverse breakdown voltage? What is the knee voltage value of
silicon and germanium?
6 a Explain the difference between sensor and transducers. State different types 5 CO5 KL5
of sensors that are employed for various applications.
b Explain the working for resistive, inductive, thermoelectric, and 5 CO5 KL3
photoelectric transducers.
c State the difference between BJT and FET. Explain the working of FET by 5 CO5 KL2
explaining its components and mode of operation through a schematic
diagram.
7 a Derive an expression for a total impedance in a series RLC circuit. Also draw 5 CO2 KL2
its phasor diagram indicating the direction of currents.
b A series RLC circuit consists of a 20Ω resistor, a 51μF capacitor, and a 5 CO2 KL4
25 mH inductor. If the source frequency is 50 Hz, and the circuit current is
350 mA, what is the applied voltage?
8 a Draw a schematic representation of an AC motor and explain the function of 10 CO3 KL2
each component in a motor. Also explain the working principle of an AC
motor.
9 a Using superposition theorem, find the current in 23 Ω resistor in the circuit 10 CO1 KL4
shown in figure below:
