November 13, On November 13, first we attend on 08 Hours

0800H 2024 orientation with the assistance of JO1
0500H Tolentino for us to be aware of the do's and
don'ts inside the BJMP, Olongapo District Jail
and after that we started our on the training
through the cooperation with the assigned desk
officer of our first day of BJMP, Olongapo
District Jail, JO3 Grezula he assigned our team
as a gate guard or perimeter guard means it is
the first line of defense against unauthorized
access to the Bureau of Jail Management and
Penology, Olongapo District Jail.
November 15, On this day, our responsibility involves 08 Hours
2024 security, access control and monitoring and
giving assistance of a gate or entrance of a
facility. Upon on our observation as a first line
of defense, we know the proper process of
before entering inside the jail whether visitors
or newly commited person deprived of
0800H liberty(PDL), such as checking the ID's who
enters inside the jail, checking from head to
0500H toe of every visitors, checking the goods enters
inside the jail and record of every actions of
BJMP officers and PDL's.

November 19, On this day, the process was more intricate 08 Hours
2024 than initially anticipated, involving detailed
paperwork and careful examination of bags,
belongings, and vehicles. In addition to these
duties, we observed the operation of security
cameras and learned how to use the
communication systems that allowed the gate
guard to relay messages to other officers inside
the facility. One of the most valuable lessons
we learned in this day was the importance of
attention to detail.

November 20, Our next on the job training was assigned in 08 Hours
0800H 2024 administrative office of BJMP, Olongapo
0500H District Jail which be in charge of everything
from collaborating with penology officers to
develop policies, goals, and objectives for jail
officers to engaging with the general public
and representing prison interests in legal
proceedings.

November 22, Upon our observation in administrative office 08 Hours

2024 of BJMP, Olongapo District Jail they gathering
personal information, documenting physical

conditions, and assigning cells. We witnessed
0500H how correctional personnel cautiously
followed processes to ensure that each PDL's
was treated fairly and politely while adhering
to tight security standards. It was a critical
component of our education since it
emphasized the significance of paperwork,

criminal justice system.

November 26, During our duty, we noticed the dedication of 08 Hours

0800H 2024 BJMP personnel in their work, though
0500H challenges like overcrowding and limited
resources sometimes make their jobs harder.
Despite these challenges, the staff remain
focused on their responsibilities, ensuring that
inmates’ rights are respected while maintaining
order. The officers are well-trained in handling
different situations, from routine checks to
emergencies

November 27, On this day, we assigned in Health Service 08 Hours

2024 Section of BJMP, Olongapo District Jail that
offers PDL interventions for disease
prevention, promotion, therapy, and
rehabilitation. All PDL are medically
evaluated upon admission. During
confinement, PDL receive health education
0800H and counselling, medical consultations, regular
health monitoring, and medication, where
0500H available.

November 28, During our duty, we observed that all PDL 08 Hours
2024 have easy access to health care for emergency
illnesses and accidents, as well as case
management and chronic disease. The PDL
have direct free health consultations, but they
must be held privately, as in HIV cases, and
recorded in an individual medical file that is
safely stored in the health service section.

November 29, On this day, we observed that to preserve their 08 Hours

0800H 2024 physical health, PDL are allowed to sunbathe
0500H on a daily basis and engage in physical
activities such as sports, as well as use gym
equipment. During my duties, I observed that
the health care section protocols are applied
equitably in the jail. Specifically, initiatives for
the prevention, treatment, and care of HIV,
tuberculosis, and mental health disorders will
be integrated into the jail.

December 02, We assigned in Welfare and Development 08 Hours

0800H 2024 Section that provides a series of programs that
0500H include physical, psychological, vocational,
intellectual and interfaith activities or
interventions that promote inmates well-being
and development in conformity with
established societal norms and ethical
standards. Upon our observation the function
of a welfare and development officer in a
correctional institution that serves PDLs is
critical in supporting their well-being and
rehabilitation.
December 03, During our duty, the officer can significantly 08 Hours
2024 contribute to the overall development and
reintegration of PDLs into society by
implementing best practices and initiatives
such as conducting needs assessments,
establishing partnerships, promoting
restorative justice, fostering empowerment,
0800H and creating a supportive environment. Like
what we observed on my duty they conduct

that there’s a god giving hope and chance to
change their wrongdoing.

December 04, On this day, we observed in the gathering of 08 Hours

2024 the PDL who had participated in various
programs such as vocational training,
educational workshops, and counseling
services. I also interviewed staff members
responsible for running these programs, in
order to evaluate their effectiveness in
reducing recidivism and supporting the
reintegration of PDL.

 December 11, On this day, we continued our duty as part of 08 Hours
0800H 2024 the gate guard team. This day provided me
0500H with further insight into the critical role of gate
security in maintaining order and discipline
within the jail facility. One of the most
interesting aspects of this day observation was
watching how the gate guard personnel
communicated with each other. We saw how
crucial it was to maintain constant
communication, especially when dealing with
visitors, deliveries, or the movement of PDL.

December 13, On our last day duty at the Olongapo District
2024 Jail (BJMP), We filled with a mixture of
emotions gratitude, pride, and a sense of
accomplishment. Over the course of our
internship, we had grown both professionally
and personally, gaining invaluable experiences
that deepened our understanding of
0800H criminology and the crucial role of law
0500H enforcement in maintaining order and security
within the criminal justice system. Our final
day was a reflection of everything we had
learned throughout our time at the BJMP, and
it allowed us to see the importance of every
duty performed within the facility. As our shift
ended, we felt a sense of accomplishment. We
had learned so much during our internship
everything from the practical application of
criminology to the importance of teamwork
and professionalism in a correctional
environment.
