1. Cards bearing numbers 3 to 20 are placed in a bag and mixed thoroughly. A card is taken out
from the bag at random. What is the probability that the number on the card taken out is an
even number?

2. A bag contains 4 red, 2 white and 6 black balls. A ball is taken out of the bag at random. Find
the probability of getting (i) black or red ball (ii) not a black ball.

3. Two friends were born in the year 2000. What is the probability that they have the same
birthday?

4. A ticket is drawn at random from a bag containing tickets numbered from 1 to 40. Find the
probability that the selected ticket has a number which is a multiple of 5.

5. Find the probability of a non-leap year having 53 Mondays.

6. Find the probability that a leap year should have exactly 52 Tuesdays.

2mark questions:

7. Cards marked with numbers 3,4, 5,…….50 are placed in a box and mixed thoroughly. One card
is drawn at random from the box. Find the probability that number on the drawn card is
(i) divisible by 7 (ii) a number which is a perfect square.

8. All the three face cards of spades are removed from a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards. A card is
then drawn at random from the remaining pack. Find the probability of getting (i) a black face
card (ii) a queen (iii) a black card (iv) a non- ace

9. A card is drawn at random from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting
(i) a red king (ii) a queen or a jack (iii) neither a king nor a queen.

10. A bag contains cards numbered 2 to 90. A card is drawn at random from the bag. Find the
probability that it bears (i) a prime number (ii) a number does not end with 2
(iii) a multiple of 2 and 3.

11. If a letter is chosen at random from the English alphabet, find the probability that the letter is
(i) a vowel (ii) a consonant (iii) a letter of the word ‘NOBLE’

12. Three unbiased coins are tossed. What is the probability of getting (i) two heads (ii) at least
two heads (iii) at most two heads (iv) one head or two heads? (v) no tails (vi) at least one tail
(vii) at most one tail (viii) at least one head and one tail.
13. A bag contains 5 red balls and some blue balls. If the probability of drawing a blue ball is
double that of red ball, find the number of blue balls in the bag.

14. In a single throw of two dice, find the probability of getting:


(i) a sum of 11 (ii) a total of 13 (iii) doublets (iv) six as a product (v) a sum greater than 9
(vi) the sum as a prime number (vii) an even number on first die and 5 on the second. (viii) a
number greater than 4 on each die.

15. A die is thrown once. Find the probability of getting (i) a composite number.
(ii) a factor of 6 (iii) a number greater than 4 (iv) a number less than 1
(v) a number between 2 and 7 (vi) not getting 5 and 6 (vii) getting a multiple of 1

16. An office has 1500 executives. Of these 900 subscribe to the Hindustan times and 750 to Hindu.
150 subscribe to both. If an executive is picked at random
(i) what is the probability that he has subscribed to Hindustan times?
(ii)what is the probability that he has subscribed to Hindu?
(iii) what is the probability that he has subscribed to both?

17. A child’s game has 8 triangles of which 3 are blue and rest are red, and 10 squares of which 6
are blue and rest are red. One piece is lost at random. Find the probability that it is a
(i) triangle (ii) square (iii) square of blue colour (iv) triangle of red colour.

18. A bag contains 16 balls out of which x are green. (i) if one ball is drawn at random, what is the
probability that it will be a green ball? (ii) If 8 more green balls are put in the bag, the
probability of drawing a green ball will be double than that in (i). find x.

19. A card is drawn at random from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting
(i) a non-face card (ii) a black king or a red queen (iii) a card of spade or an ace
(iv) neither 2 nor 10

20. A number x is selected at random from the numbers 1,2, 3 and 4. Another number y is selected
at random from the numbers 1,4, 9 and 16. Find the probability that product of x and y is less
than 16.
