20% Class participation (A)

20% Class Participation (A)
• Assessed by tutors based on the quantity and quality of a
student’s participation during tutorials.
• Students are expected to complete all tutorial questions
before tutorial class, and to contribute to discussions during
class.
• Student will be assigned to tutorial class and tutorial will start in
week 3; through the Canvas system. Please take note that
students will NOT receive credit for participations to any
classes attended other than the tutorial class that they are
officially registered in.
• Tutorial classes are conducted in about 45 minutes, and for
effective learning in the limited time span, please arrive
punctually. Arriving late will disrupt the class and the tutor may
deduct class participation mark. Please ensure adequate travelling
time between classes. 4
30% Mid-term test (B)
• 1.5 hour
• Closed Book. Strictly one A4 sheet printed/written both sides (no
post-it stickers on the cheat sheet) allowed.
• Examplify, on-campus. There will be no concurrent offsite online
exam option and no make-up test for the mid-term test.
• Lecture materials, self-study materials and required readings for
Lecture 1 to 6, and tutorial materials (Tutorial 1 to 5) are
examinable.
• Tentative 16 March 2024 (Saturday) 4pm-530pm
• Important! If you cannot take the test, please email me
[email protected] ASAP with your reasons, or by 28
January at the latest.
• The exact format, location and duration would be informed later.

50% Final examination (C)
• 2-hour exam
• Closed Book. Strictly one A4 sheet printed/written both sides
(no post-it stickers on the cheat sheet) allowed.
• 6 May (Mon) 5pm.
• The exam is cumulative, i.e., all materials covered in the
course are examinable.
• Examplify, on-campus. There will be no concurrent offsite
online exam option.

Examplify Assessment System

• There will NOT be in-lecture Examplify briefing for all students taking
the course. You are strongly encouraged to attend CIT’s common
Examplify briefing scheduled for Sem 2 AY2023/24:

familiarize with Examplify. There are multiple sessions spread over the
semester and you are allowed to attend the briefing more than once.

•The onus is on all students to ensure that you are adequately


prepared before you take any assessments in Examplify.

• Bring your own notebook and charger to take the test. During the
assessment, access to internet, software programs and materials in the
laptop will be blocked. Read up

Lecture Mode
Lectures (Week 1 to 12)
• ALL lecture classes will be conducted face-to-face on NUS campuses.
There will be no Zoom setup for concurrent online sessions and
no lecture recordings posted for viewing (guidance from the
Dean’s office).

• As the lectures will start punctually, please arrive at least five minutes
before the class starts.

• Sequential and integrated teaching approach - Each lecture topic is


linked. Important that you attend all lectures

• Students are expected to download the lecture materials, and read the
lecture notes, textbook chapters and required readings before class.
Optional Readings are not required readings and are for reference only.

Lecture Mode
Lectures (Week 1 to 12)
• Participate during lecture on Quick Check and Supplementary
Questions.

• Switching of lecture class is not encouraged. If you need to do so


for a valid reason, please email me ([email protected]) your
request and state which class you intend to attend for that week.

• As lecture’s timing is limited, only important areas are covered.


ALL pages in stated chapters of textbook and required
readings are examinable unless specifically excluded (even
if not covered in lecture). You are strongly encouraged to
read the textbook and required readings to deepen your
understanding of the subject.

Tutorial and Self-Study Mode
Tutorials (Week 3 to 13)
• On the tutorial questions, please refer to the Teaching Schedule,
column ‘Tutorial Questions’.

• Tutorial questions will be based on materials covered in lectures in


the earlier weeks, especially the immediate previous week.

• If students face difficulties with the tutorial questions, please seek


advice from tutor.

Tutorial and Self-Study Mode
Tutorials (Week 3 to 13)

• Self-study questions with answers will be uploaded, which are


recommended to be reviewed before the tutorial class.

• Suggested solutions to the tutorial questions will be uploaded on


Saturday after the tutorials.

• ALL tutorial and self-study questions are examinable unless


specifically excluded.

As this is a large-size lecture, if students face difficulties


with the lecture materials, please consult your respective
tutor. Please do not email the lecturer with content
