Web Application development Using PHP Experiment No.

11

EXPERIMENT No. 11
1.0 Title:
Design web page using following form control
a. List b. Combo Box c. Hidden control
2.0 Form control
When we design web page to accept input from the user then we have to use
html form controls.

3.0 New Concepts:

3.1 List
The <select> element defines a drop-down list

<html>

<body>

<select name="cars">
<option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
<option value="saab">Saab</option>
<option value="fiat">Fiat</option>
<option value="audi">Audi</option>
</select>
</body>

</html>

The <option> elements defines an option that can be selected.

By default, the first item in the drop-down list is selected.

To define a pre-selected option, add the selected attribute to the

option

Example
<option value="fiat" selected>Fiat</option>

Use the size attribute to specify the number of visible values:

Example
<select name="cars" size="3">
<option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
<option value="saab">Saab</option>
<option value="fiat">Fiat</option>
<option value="audi">Audi</option>
</select>

Use the multiple attribute to allow the user to select more than
one value:

Example
<select name="cars" size="4" multiple>
<option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
<option value="saab">Saab</option>
<option value="fiat">Fiat</option>
<option value="audi">Audi</option>
</select>

3.2 Hidden Control:

 The <input type="hidden"> defines a hidden input field.

 A hidden field let web developers include data that cannot be seen or
modified by users when a form is submitted.

 A hidden field often stores what database record that needs to be updated
when the form is submitted.

<html>

<body>

<h1>A Hidden Field (look in source code)</h1>

<form action="action_page.php">

<label for="fname">First name:</label>

<input type="text" id="fname" name="fname"><br><br>

<input type="hidden" id="custId" name="custId" value="3487">

<input type="submit" value="Submit">

</form>

<p><strong>Note:</strong> The hidden field is not shown to the user, but the
data is sent when the form is submitted.</p>

</body>

</html>
