Unit 1 – Electrostatics ( Including board questions)

Find the equivalent capacitance of the following networks:

Q. Draw electric field lines and equipotential surfaces for the following:

(a) q > 0 (b) q< 0 (c) q1q2 >0 (d) q1q2 <0

Q. If the radius is reduced to half, how would the electric flux through the surface change?

Q. a)A uniformly charged sphere has total charge of 300 µC and a radius of 8 cm. Find the
electric field (a) at a point 16 cm from the centre of the sphere. (b) at a point on the surface of
the sphere, and (c) at a point inside the sphere.

(b)An infinite line charge produces a field of 9x104 N/C at a distance of 2 cm. Calculate the
linear charge density.

(c) A charge of 1500 µC is distributed uniformly over a very large sheet of surface area 300m2.

Q. Three point charges 1 pC each is kept at vertex of an equilateral triangle
with each side 10cm. Find the net electric field at centroid of the triangle.

Q. Four point charges of 1μC, −2μC, 1μC and −2μC are placed at the corners
A, B, C and D respectively, of a square of side 30 cm . Find the net force acting
on a charge of 4μC placed at the centre of the square.

Q. The electric field components due to a charge inside the cube of side 0.1 m are as shown :
Ex = αx, where α = 500 N/C-m, Ey = 0, Ez = 0.
Calculate (i) the flux through the cube, and (ii) the charge inside the cube.
Q. A uniformly charged conducting sphere of 2.4m diameter has a surface charge density
8.0x10-7C/m2. Find the charge on the sphere. What is the total flux leaving the surface?
