currents respectively in opposite directions. Calculate the magnitude of the force exerted by
wire A on a 10 cm length of wire B.

1. A solenoid of 500 turns, diameter 20cm and resistance 2 ohm is rotated about its
vertical diameter through π radian in .025s, when horizontal field of 3x 10-5 T acts
normal to its plane. Find the e.m.f induced and the current thereof.

(a) the impedance of the circuit;


(b) the phase difference between the voltage across the source and the
current.
(c) the power dissipated in the circuit.

15. A power transmission line feeds input power at 2300 V to a stepdown transformer with
its primary winding having 4000 turns. What should be the number of turns in the
secondary in order to get output power at 230 V?

16. Current in a circuit falls from 5 A to 0 A in 0.1s. If an average emf of 200V induced,
give an estimate of the self-inductance of the circuit.

17. The current flowing through a pure inductor of inductance 4mH is i = 12 cos 300t
ampere. What is the (i) rms (ii) average value of current for a complete cycle?

18. When an inductor L and a resistor R in series are connected across a 12 V, 50 Hz


supply, a current of 0.5A flows in the circuit. The current differs in phase from applied
voltage by π/3 radian. Calculate the value of R.

19. Discuss the phenomenon of resonance in LCR series circuit. A capacitor of 15 Ω and
101.5mH inductor are placed in series with a 50 Hz AC source. Calculate the capacity
of capacitor if the current is observed in phase with voltage.

20. The area of a coil of 25 turns is 1.6 cm2. This coil is inserted in 0.3 sec in a magnetic field
of 1.8 Wb/m2 such that its plane is perpendicular to the flux line of the field. Calculate
the emf induced in the coil. Also calculate the total charge that passes through the wire,
if its resistance is 10Ω.
Q. You are given three circuits X, Y and Z when the element X is connected across an a.c. source
of a given voltage, the current and voltage are in same phase. When element Y is connected in
series with X across the source, voltage is ahead of voltage by π/4. But the current is ahead of
voltage by π/4, when Z is connected series with X, across the source. Identify the circuit
elements X, Y and Z.

When all the three elements are connected in series across the same source, determine the
impedance of the circuit . Draw a plot of current versus the frequency of applied source and
mention the significance of this plot.

In series LCR circuit, obtain the conditions under which (i) impedance is minimum and (ii)
wattless current flows in the circuit.
Q. A coil of inductance 0.50 H and resistance 100 ohm is connected to a 240 V, 50 Hz ac
supply. What is the maximum current in the coil?

Q. A sinusoidal voltage of peak value 283 V and frequency 50 Hz is applied to a series LCR

expression for the impedance of the circuit.
