UMBB/IGEE/EE331/L05 – All Groups Chapter 04: Rectifiers

Problem set No 04

Problem: 01 controlled Half-Wave Rectifier with R Load

Design a circuit to produce an average voltage of 40 V across a 100- load resistor from a 120-V rms 60-Hz
ac source. Determine the power absorbed by the resistance and the power factor.
Problem: 02
For the circuit of Fig. 1, R = 2Ω, L= 20 mH, and Vdc =100 V. The ac source is 120 V rms at 60 Hz.
Determine:
1. an expression for the current in the circuit,
2. the power absorbed by the resistor,
3. the power absorbed by the dc source, and
4. the power supplied by the ac source and the power factor of the circuit.

Problem: 03 FWR with RLE—CCM

For the full-wave bridge rectifier circuit of Fig. 2, the ac source is 120V rms at 60 Hz, R=2Ω, L=10 mH,
and Vdc = 80 V. Determine the power absorbed by the dc voltage source and the power absorbed by the
load resistor.

Problem: 04 Full-Wave Rectifier with RL Load

The bridge rectifier circuit of Fig.3 has an ac source with Vm=100 V at 60 Hz and a series RL load with
R=10Ω and L=10 mH.
1. Determine the average current in the load.
2. Determine the power absorbed by the load and the power factor of the circuit.
3. Determine the average and rms currents in the diodes.
