Exponential form

Exponential form to Log form

Q. Express in logarithmic form: 53 = 125
Q. Express in exponential form: log8 0.125 = - 1
Exponential form to Log form

ab = c ↔ loga c = b
Q. State true or false: If log10 x = a, then
10x = a.
a) True b) False

Logarithmic Function - Basics

Note:

The logarithm of a negative number is undefined.

(for valid base b)
Logarithmic Function - Basics

The logarithm of 1 to any base is zero.

Logarithmic Function - Basics

If x is positive

The logarithm of 1 to any base is zero.

logx 1 = 0 ⇒ x0 = 1
(As we know a0 = 1)
Log of 1 to the base x = 0

Ex: log5 1 = 0
log10 1 = 0 ……..etc
Logarithmic Function - Basics

The logarithm of any number to the

same base is always one.
Logarithmic Function - Basics

If x is positive

The logarithm of any number to the same base is

always one.

logx x = 1 ⇒ x1 = x
(As we know a1 = a)
Log of x to the base x = 1

Ex: log5 5 = 1
log10 10 = 1 ……..etc
Q. Find the logarithm of 100 to the base 10.
Q. Find the value of x, if log9 243 = x
Q. Find x if log7(2x2 - 1) = 2

A 5

B -5

C ±5

D None of these
Laws of Logarithms

loga (m × n) = loga m + loga n

Laws of Logarithms

loga (m × n × p) = loga m + loga n + loga p

Note

loga (m + n) ≠ loga m + loga n

Q. Express as a single logarithm : log2 4 + log2 5

Q. Express as a single logarithm : loga 28 - loga 4
a) loga 24 b) loga 7
Laws of Logarithms

loga (m)n = n × loga m

Q. Express as a single logarithm: 2loga 5 - 3loga 2
