Arduino-based Plant Monitoring System

Introduction
The Arduino-based Plant Monitoring System addresses the growing demand for
sustainable and efficient plant care solutions, especially as climate change and
urbanization challenge traditional gardening practices. By monitoring key
environmental parameters—such as soil moisture, temperature, and sunlight
exposure—the system ensures optimal growing conditions and reduces the need for
frequent hands-on care. This approach is particularly relevant in urban areas where
space and time for gardening are limited. The system also offers real-time alerts
through LEDs or buzzers, allowing users to respond promptly when plants need
watering or when environmental conditions fall outside optimal ranges. This
technology not only simplifies plant care for urban gardeners but also supports
efficient resource use, making it ideal for both home and commercial applications.
These features not only help avoid overwatering or neglecting plants but also
support water conservation efforts, which is critical in areas facing water scarcity.

Existing research supports the effectiveness of such systems in enhancing plant

care. A study by Ahonen et al. (2008) demonstrated how the integration of
temperature, humidity, and light sensors in greenhouse environments can
significantly improve resource efficiency and plant health. Moreover, IoT-based
plant health monitoring systems, including Arduino-driven projects, have proven
successful in automating irrigation and optimizing environmental control (Jain et al.,
2021). These advancements allow for precise tracking of plant conditions in real-
time, reducing water wastage and ensuring plants receive the care they need.
Building upon these developments, the proposed system seeks to offer an easy-to-
use, cost-effective solution that integrates seamlessly into modern gardening
practices, whether for small-scale home use or large-scale agricultural applications.
