6 In the figure below, triangle PQR  is the image of triangle PQR under a rotation centre O.

Locate the centre of rotation, O, hence find the angle of rotation. (3 marks)

7 A Kenyan businessman intended to buy goods worth US dollar 25 000 from Japan. Calculate the value
of the goods to the nearest Japanese Yen given that,
1 US dollar = Ksh 132.50 and 100 Japanese Yen = Ksh 85.10. (3 marks)

8 Triangle ABC is mapped onto ABC by an enlargement P while ABC is mapped onto ABC by
another enlargement R.

Ksh 432, Ksh 535 or Ksh 640 respectively. Find:
(a) The minimum size of the bag of sugar. (2 marks)

(b) The maximum amount that can be obtained from the selling the repackaged sugar. (2 marks)

12 A translation T maps a point P  1,3 onto P  5, 2  and another point Q onto Q 1,1 . Find the

coordinates of Q. (3 marks)

13 The length of a rectangle is 31 cm more than its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 98 cm.

18 (a) Solve the equation  by factorization. (4 marks)

(b) The length of a rectangular floor is 3 metres less than twice its width. The area of the floor is 35 m 2.
Taking the width of the floor as x metres;
(i) Form an equation in x for the area of the floor hence find the dimensions of the floor.

(ii) A square carpet is placed centrally on the floor leaving a margin of area 14.75 m 2. Calculate
the perimeter of the carpet. (2 marks)

19 The figure below shows a container in the shape of a frustum with base and top radii measuring 30 cm
and 50 cm respectively. The container has a hemispherical lid whose radius is equal to the radius of the
top of the bucket. The height of the frustum is 48 cm.

Taking π  3.142 , calculate:


(a) The surface area of the container (5 marks)

(b) The container is filled with water to a height of 36 cm. Calculate:


(i) The radius of the water surface in the container. (2 marks)

(ii) The volume of water in the container. (3 marks)

20 The figure below shows the speed – time graph of a car during a 5 – minute journey. The car covered a
distance of 5 250 metres during the journey.

Calculate:
(a) The maximum speed in km/h attained by the car. (3 marks)

(b) The acceleration of the car during:


(i) The first part of the journey. (2 marks)

(ii) The last part of the journey. (2 marks)

(c) The time taken by the car to travel the first half of the journey. (3 marks)

21 Three poles A, B and C are on a level ground. Pole B is east of A while pole C is on a bearing 045 o
from B. The distance between A and B is 20 metres while the distance between B and C is 30 metres.
(a) Calculate:
(i) The area bounded by the edges connecting the poles A, B and C correct to 2 decimal places.
(3 marks)

(ii) The perpendicular distance from pole C to the edge AB produced. (2 marks)

(b) The height of the poles A, B and C are 12 metres, 6 metres and 10 metres respectively. Calculate:
(i) The angle of elevation of the top of pole A from the foot of pole B. (2 marks)

(ii) The angle of depression of the top of pole B from the top of pole C. (3 marks)

24 Three warships A, B and C are at sea such that ship B is 400 km on a bearing of 030 from ship A.
Ship C is 750 km from ship B and on a bearing of 120 from ship B. An enemy ship E is sighted 1
000 km due south of ship B.

(a) Taking a scale of 1 cm to represent 100 km, locate the positions of ships A, B, C and E. (4 marks)

(b) Find:

(i) The bearing of C from E. (2 marks)

(ii) The distance between A and E. (2 marks)

(c) A point D is equidistant from the war ships A, B and C. On the scale drawing, locate the point D
hence determine the distance between ship E and point D. (2 marks)
