GENDER EQUALITY

SCENE 1
Narrator: During their free cut, a group of college friends decided to hang out
at the park as they waited for the next subject.

Rm: Our project is finally done! We can relax now!

Hj: Relax?! Exam’s fast approaching. How can we relax?
Ars: Duh! It’s still two weeks from now. Cut your self some slacks.
Aj: By the way, where are the others?
Rm: Tristan said he’s coming. I don’t know with Mat, though.
Hj: Oh, there they are! *pointing*
Aj: Where did you two go?
Tan: Canteen. We just bought something.
Ars: And you didn’t even bother to ask us?
Mat: We’re here now. Asking you won’t make any sense.
Rm: why are you so suddenly clingy to each other?
Hj: Oh my God, Relma! It’s normal! They’re friends!
Ars: What’re you trying to say? It’s not like they’re in a relationship or
something.. They’re both men!

Narrator: However, Relma is not convinced with what her friends are saying.
She speculated that there’s something going on between the two.

Scene 2
*After their class*
Aj: I’ll go ahead first, ah? I still have some errands to do. Bye.
Hj: What’s taking Relma so long? I thought she’ll just get her things in the
room?
Ars: I don’t know. Maybe she came across her acquaintance.
Rm: you won’t believe it!
Hj: What?
Rm: I saw them! In my own eyes! They held each others hands!
Ars: who?!
Rm: I followed them. Tristan and mat!
Hj: What? Why?
Rm: That’s not important! There’s no mistaking it. They have a thing! Tristan
and Mat are in a relationship!
Ars: What?! Are you kidding me?
Hj: Relma, calm down. I’m sure you have just misinterpreted the situation.
Rm: I knew what I saw is true. I’m gonna confront them!

Scene 3:
*Classroom setting*

Rm: So this is what you’re hiding all this time?

Hj: relma, stop it.
Mat: what’re you talking about?
Rm: I believe boys should not be in a relationship with their same sex..
Ars: really, mat? You hid this from us?
Tan: We don’t know what you’re saying. Let’s go, Mat.
Rm: How can you deny it when I saw you two holding hands with each other
yesterday? I was sure friends don’t hold hands like that!
Tan: What now? By the sounds of it, you seemed homophobic. I am
disappointed, Relma.
Rm: What you have is against the law of nature! That’s taboo!
Mat: Tristan, let’s just go.

Scene 4:
Hj: relma!
Rm: *not minding hj*
Hj: relma, let’s talk!
Rm: what? You’re gonna defend them?
Hj: what you did was wrong! That’s below the belt!
Rm: I only said what’s true! Boys should not be in a relationship with both
sex! That is considered a taboo!
Hj: Don’t tell me just because they came out you’ll just throw away our
friendship? Relma, before you, I saw them first. At first, I find it immoral but
when I learned that LGBT community got too much hate, I can’t stand seeing
our friends get the hate too.
Rm: *went speechless*
Hj: As their friend and as your friend, I felt the need to voice out my opinion
on this. We cannot forever hold a grudge against those people who have a
relationship with their same sex. As their friend, we should support them. Not
the other way around. Respect and support is not only for those straight
people. It applies to everybody regardless of gender. It applies to Tristan and
Mat, too.
Rm: *regretful, held the hands of hj* I’m sorry. What should I do now?
Hj: Iron things out. Talk to them. I’ll talk to Arlyn about this too.

Narrator: Relma realizes her mistakes. She was regretful and guilty for all the
words that came out of her mouth and when she talked ill about her friends’
situation. Later on that day, after some realizations and reflections about
what she did, she finally has the courage to face her friends and ask for
forgiveness.

Scene 5

RM: I want to talk to you both.

Tan: If you’re gonna insult us again, then no. We’re leaving.
RM: No, I badly wanna talk to you guys. Please.
Mat: Okay. Let’s hear her.
RM: For all the things that I’ve said, I’m sorry. That was very uncalled for. No
words can justify what I did to you guys. It was very unbecoming of me to
talk that way to you two when you’re my friends. I’m very sorry.
Mat: We have been in a relationship for months now. And the reason why we
kept this hidden was because we were afraid of the people's reaction to this.
tan: We're really afraid to come out. But you saw us..
RM: I'm really sorry. I promise I won't judge you anymore. I'll promise to be
your first line of defense when you two decide to come out.
tan: Forgiven. I'm sorry too.

Narrator: After their talk, Rm and her friends hugged, finally patching things
up. From that moment on, Rm stood by Tan and Mat, keeping her promise to
support them as they slowly opened up about their relationship. Their
friendship became stronger, built on respect and understanding.

This story reminds us that judging others based on who they love only
creates unnecessary walls. Instead, learning to accept and respect each
other makes life better for everyone. Like people say: "Gender equality
means everyone deserves respect and love, no matter who they are or who
they’re with."
