Solution
This note describes the hardware, software, prerequisites and released versions in the SAP/Oracle
Linux environment. This is an initial note that is intended to provided a first overview of the
topic Oracle Linux and SAP.

¡ The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) and the Red Hat-compatible kernel are supported.
l SAP NetWeaver 7.0x and higher and SAP products that are integrated into it
l SAP NETWEAVER CE 7.1, SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NW CE 7.1, SAP NETWEAVER CE 7.2, SAP NETWEAVER PI 7.1,
SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NW PI 7.1, SAP NETWEAVER 7.3
l Oracle Linux is certified for the SAP Java Virtual Machine (JVM). We recommend the SAP JVM for
the SAP Java stack. As of SAP NW 7.11, the installation tools are changed to SAP JVM. You must
use older versions for the installation of the IBM Java JDK (see Note 1172419). You can use "SAP
Java Switch Tool" to change to SAP JVM after the installation (see Notes 1495160 and 1555341).
l As a database, the Oracle database is supported as of Version 11g Release 2. For a listing of
SAP products based on Netweaver 7.0x that are supported with this Oracle database, see Note
1398634.
l SAP application servers on Oracle Linux can be operated in connection with an Oracle database
only.
l In the SAP environment, Oracle Linux is not released as operating system software for virtual
machines that are based on VMware.
