NBS 1015-040208 -iii- Operation Guide

Chapter 1 - Getting Started
Introduction

The Remote Dashboard is a utility that allows communication between a

centralized PC and the IMX 2® Series printer(s) via an Internet or
Intranet connection.

The user can send and receive various files to and from the IMX 2® Series
printers on their network. The user can get a new card layout from one
IMX 2® Printer and share it with other IMX 2® printers on the network.

The various files that can be shared are:

C Firmware - Allows for the downloading of new and updated

firmware as it becomes available from NBS. Assures
all units are operating from same or different
version(s) of firm-ware, at user’s choice.
C Fonts - Allows for sharing and creation of IMX 2® Printer
compatible fonts.
C Logos - Allows for sharing and creation of IMX 2® Printer
compatible Logos and other images.
C Layouts - Allows for the sharing of card layouts.
C Text files - Allows for the sharing of text files.

In order for Remote Dashboard to function, both the PC on which it is

loaded, and any IMX 2® Series printers to which it will communicate, must
be connected to the communication system in use - internal Intranet or
external Internet. Refer to the IMX 2® operation manual for printer
connector locations. Refer to the PC manual for its connector locations.

The user must obtain the IP addresses for the IMX 2® Series Printers to
be connected to Dashboard. The User’s Network Administrator is the
likely source of this information.

Loading Dashboard

Dashboard software is loaded from the Compact Disk (CD) provided with
the new ImageMaster IMX 2® Series Printer.

Place the CD into the CD drive on the PC. The CD contains a self
staring program that will display a menu on the PC screen.

Select “Load Dashboard” from the menu. Follow any instructions that
appear on the screen.

When loaded the Dashboard icon appears on the PC Desktop Screen.

Remote Dashboard Chapter 1 - Getting Started

Starting Dashboard

To activate Dashboard simply double click on the desktop icon.

If the password feature is not used, the Opening Screen appears

immediately after double clicking on the desktop icon.

If the password feature is active, a Login Screen is displayed.

Figure 1-1 Login Screen

Enter the password and click on or press [Enter] key.

An unsuccessful login results in an error message and the Dashboard

program will not start. The user is given a chance to re-enter a correct
password.

After a successful login the Remote Dashboard Operating Screen is

displayed.

The Remote Dashboard Operating Screen is the user’s interface with the
program.

Chapter 2 - Initial Dashboard Session
Once activated, by double clicking the Dashboard icon, the first time the
program is started the Initial Opening screen is displayed.

Initial Opening Screen

The initial opening screen differs from the typical Dashboard operating
screen only in that it is blank. No information exists about the existing
IMX 2® Series printer(s) on the user’s PC system. While the NBS
authorized service representative, setting up the system may perform
initial connections, the operator should be familiar with the process as
future printer connections may be needed.

First Things First

Creating a connection between the IMX 2® Series printer(s) and the

Dashboard system is the first function to be performed.

After the initial setup, as new IMX 2® printers are added to the system,
this process is repeated. The only difference, in later connecting
procedures, the starting screen will not be blank.

Connecting to IMX 2® Printers

The first step is to identify the IMX 2® printer being added. Use the New
Connection dialog window to identify the IMX 2® Series Printer added to
Remote Dashboard program. To access this dialog window Click on one
of following items:

C “New Connection...” Under Property Bar “Connect” Icon

C “New...” under the Connection Menu

Connect Icon - New Connection...

Connection Menu - New...

Figure 2-2 New Connection Locations

Regardless of which is used, both of the above result in New Connection

Dashboard operating screen will display a moving bar tracking the

connection process.

An error message will display if connection can not be made, requiring

user intervention. Typically the IMX 2® printer is either not turned on,
or not connected to network.

Once successfully connected, the ImageMaster column on the Dashboard

Operating screen becomes “active” and the selected folder content is
displayed. The active side of the screen is darker than the inactive side.
The user is looking at the files stored internally in the memory of the
IMX 2® printer.

Figure 2-5 Connected IMX 2® Display

In the above illustration the IMX 2® “Firmware Folder” is being displayed,

signified by the word “Firmware” at top of screen. Also the Firmware folder
content button, on left side of screen, appears “depressed”. The illustrated
IMX 2® contains two versions of firmware. The “contents” of the highlighted
“CFMASTER.FRM” firmware is displayed in lower screen. It is identified as
version 0.80 created on 3/1/2004.

Remote Dashboard Chapter 2 - Initial Dashboard Session

As the Remote Dashboard program and the IMX 2® printer are connected
all other functions of the Dashboard are now available to the user.

Moving information to PC Default Folder

The main function of Dashboard is to move files between the PC and the
various IMX 2® printers on the system. With a connection in place
between the default IMX 2® and the PC, moving initial information to the
PC Folder is the next step of the initial session.

With the ImageMaster folder active, highlight the information to be

copied.

Click on the “Download” icon on Property Bar

Figure 2-6 Download Icon

The information will be downloaded to PC folder. The same information

is now loaded in both locations – The IMX 2® Series Printer and the
“Default Folder” on the PC. In the above illustration the Firmware files

are being downloaded. Depending on the type of information selected on

the left of the screen, the information being downloaded could just as
easily be Fonts, Logos, Layouts or Text files.

Figure 2-7 Completed Downloading of Files

In fact during this initial session, all the information should be

downloaded to the PC. An alternate method uses the “Download All”
feature described later in this Guide.

Folder Content Buttons

The Folder Content Buttons on the left side of the screen determine what
is displayed in the top part of the folder on the screen. The options are:

Firmware: Lists the Firmware files loaded in folder.

Fonts: Lists the Fonts loaded into folder.

Logos: Lists the Logos loaded in folder.

Layouts: Lists the Layouts loaded in folder.

Text Files: Lists Text Files loaded in folders.

Deleted Files: Displays a list of deleted files that can be

restored if desired. Works like the
standard Windows Recycle Bin or Trash
Can, depending on Windows version used.

Clicking on one of the items, in any of the listings, except “Deleted Files”,
will display details of the item in the bottom half of the Folder display.

For example - “CARD” layout

is highlighted in top of the
Layout Folder in Fig. 3-5.

A representation of the
layout is displayed in lower
half of folder screen.

Note: Lower display allows

viewing both sides of
card - Front and Back. Click
on desired view for it to
display. The lighter tab is
active, the darker tab is
inactive. The illustration is
showing Back of the Card.

The Content button sets the display for both PC Folder and the IMX 2®
Folder. However the individual content displayed in lower half can be
independent of each other. In the illustration below both folders are
displaying Fonts - as that is the content button selected, but each folder
has a different font highlighted and subsequently a “Dutch 18 Pt” font is
displayed in PC Folder, while a “Swiss 18 Pt” font is displayed in the
ImageMaster Folder.

files. Three options are listed across bottom of the screen. Clicking on
the option preforms the function as follows:

The Synchronize function is accessed from either:

is active, as indicated by the greyed menu item or blanked out icon.

Once selected the “Synchronize Files - Screen 1” dialog box is displayed.
