METHOD STATEMENT

INTRODUCTION

This method statement is proposed for the construction of Construction of LASITO water supply in UASIN GISHU

COUNTY. Water Pan Structure comprising of a Reinforced Concrete Weir at the nearest River and the Construction

of a Clear Water. Whereas it gives a general description of works for both the structures, special emphasis has been

given to the e intake works, highlighting about river diversion for the works.

GENERAL

The sound project management will be realized through daily, weekly and monthly site meetings deliberations
where the whole team of Contractor and supervision engineers will be available to discuss the areas how bottle
necks shall be dealt with to avoid adverse effects to the project implementation.
Our construction programme indicates our proposed timings and sequencing of operations necessary to achieve
project completion

Preliminaries
 Risk assessment/ hazard Analysis and method statement submission & approval
 Submit workforce list as per required job sequence before commencement
 Obtain HSE training /induction
 Obtain work permits for each task as stipulated
 Provide site office for use at site
 Provide warning signs
 Provide welfare facilities including mobile toilets
Prior to the commencement of the project works, the preliminary health and safety and fire safety plan will be
prepared. This plan will be progressively refined and developed as subcontractors and specialists are appointed, and
more specific and detailed methods, techniques and requirements are established.
Any potential hazards on site will be identified and marked and eliminated.
The contractor’s offices and welfare facilities will be set up within the contractor’s site area as discussed under site
logistics

Site supervision

The project manager, supervision Engineer and other supplementary staff will manage and supervise all activities
under the general conditions of contract so as to ensure among other things on site:-
 the works are constructed in accordance with the contract
 the quality of workmanship and materials are in accordance with the specifications
 the work is carried out in a safe and appropriate way with specified standards of Health and Safety
including Personal Protection Equipment
 the resources provided by the contractors are adequate to complete the works within the schedules
 the cost of the works conforms to that given in the contract
In order that the Client is guaranteed of a reliable product the Contractor in his effort to have the works comply with
specifications, shall ensure the procedures undertaken are relevant to the main tasks as listed below namely:

Materials Testing

Materials tests are designed to ensure that all materials incorporated into the works conform to the requirements of
the specifications.

All purchased materials must have compliance test certificates of each consignment of materials so that any defects
can be identified before materials are used on site.

For materials produced on site e.g. concrete, grout, trench and embankment fill, etc., the Contractor will ensure that
the sampling testing and analysis of these materials and respectively certify formations according to the
specification.

Field works

Field works shall be carried out in such a way that standards are met and all work is performed according to the
drawings and specifications. This will cover the following:-

- Construction workmanship
- Material quality and dimensions
- Material testing and achievement of specified placement and performance targets
- Adherence to embankment soils specified placement levels and to drawings details
- Profile lines and dimensions trench support and dewatering measures
- Installations of equipment
- Environmentally safe disposal of surplus excavation spoil materials, and left overs
- Adherence to safety and health requirements
- Environmental protection measures

Contract Administration

The relevant Contractor’s Head Office staff will attend all monthly site meetings and site inspections as dictated by
works progress. These meetings/site inspections will be attended by Contractor, all subcontractors, client and
stakeholders. During these meetings works will be inspected, progress reviewed and reports from all participants
received. The Contractor representative for the project will monitor action being taken by various parties as
recommended in the site meetings and attend to issues related to Civil/Structural discipline to achieve
interdisciplinary harmony. The Contractor’s role shall be based on a complete understanding of the contract and
strict observance of all contractual conditions. The following measures will supplement the contract administration:-

- Drawings and documentation control


- Drawings clarification
- Shop drawing control systems
- Record of all changes properly evaluated estimated negotiated and accepted
- Mark up for all as built drawings
- Documentation for processing extras and potential claims before Client releases final account
payments

- keeping the client posted on any instruction(s) that might have implication on the project final
account

QA/QC –Quality Assurance/Quality Control

The project quality shall be achieved by a comprehensive quality control programme. The programme will define in
details the procedures that will be followed throughout the contract execution to ensure that appropriate observation,
testing and examination will be employed, documented and reported in order to accomplish the desired level of
quality and workmanship for the project.

Prior to project completion pre final inspection must be performed and all deficiencies in scope and quality of work
are brought to the attention of the supervision engineer.

Reporting

The Contractor will maintain the following records pertaining to all civil works and reports for purposes of
monitoring progress, project costs and keeping the client posted.

- Site instruction book to be completed by supervision engineer upon visiting the site
- Records of site meetings and inspections
- Material test results and suppliers certificates

Weather Conditions

In case it rains, all works will be stopped and resumed after the rain has stopped. The workers will be encouraged to
take more safe drinking water to avoid dehydration and regular test results shall be encouraged.

Personal Protective Equipment

On a construction site, it is mandatory to wear complete PPE for any task being handled however small it may seem.
The list of PPE include:

 Safety footwear
 High visibility clothing
 Hard hats
 Hearing protection
 Gloves
 Safety glasses
 Overalls
 Respiratory protection
All PPE is to be issued free of charge. Managers are to instruct the operatives in the procedures for cleaning,
maintenance, storage, and replacement of their PPE. This procedure is as in our health and safety procedure manual.

House Keeping

Housekeeping will be done on a daily basis to ensure tidy environment.

Amendments

If any variation to this method is required, then the amendment must be recorded. All operatives will be briefed on
the changes and revised methods.

Handing Over

The sites will be cleaned up prior to commencement of handing over activities. The clean-up will entail the
following:

 Cleaning including scrapping of any contaminated murram from CCA to stockpile for removal by
licensed contractor
 Removal of any waste and excess materials from site
 Borrow pit reinstatement in the line with local Authorities requirements
 Removal and demobilization of contractor’s equipment, tools and site offices.
Handing over of the completed works back to the Employer by the contractor will then be completed as per the
contract requirements.

Documents and Records

Assis has in place a well-structured QA/QC framework for document control. The document controller is charged
with proper record keeping and filling. Some of the QA/QC documents that guarantees first class products by ASSIS
include but not limited to the following:

 Producer’s quality certificate/declarations of conformity for materials for concrete manufacturing,


reinforcement, water stop bars, and all other materials.
 Material inspection records
 Survey reports
 Reports for test of subgrade and borrow material
 Report/Check sheet for mounted formwork and scaffolding
 Report/Check sheet for mounted reinforcement
 Record of concrete supply and casting
 Post concrete check sheet
 Calibration certificates
 As built drawings

SURVEY WORKS

The Surveyor will move to site with the following survey instruments:

1. Total station
2. Hand held GPS receiver
3. Staff and ranging rods
4. Prisms and prism holder stand
5. Tripod stand for the total station and for the levelling machine
6. Leveling machine

Using the conductor pipe coordinates given in the drawing, the surveyor shall confirm that the coordinates coincide
with the marked point on site.

The surveyor will then establish control points using the known point at least two and monument with concrete
marking or naming as appropriate to the task. These points will be established within or outside the site.

The surveyor will set out the extent of the site as per the specifications given in the site drawing or as advised by the
Clients representative. When the extent of the site has been marked, the surveyor will then proceed to carry out
topographic survey for the entire site and plot the data in AUTOCAD revealing the topography by using contours

and marking the TBMs differently as well as the conductor pipe point/s. This data will be used by both the engineer
and the surveyor to design the cut to fill on site and the finished design level for the pad.

A. GENERAL DESCRIPTION - CIVIL WORKS

Description of Works:

1. Clearance of the Ground


- The ground for the works shall be cleared to rid off all vegetation and superficial obstructions. In case of
trees, the Engineer shall be consulted prior to any cutting or pruning.
- The combustible material cleared shall be disposed of by strictly controlled burning upon approval by the
Engineer or his representative.
- Any other material not suitable for burning shall be cart away to spoil in dumpsites or areas directed by the
Engineer or his representative.
- Destruction of termite nests within the site shall commence with excavation during which the queens shall
be destroyed and their holes impregnated with approved anti-termite pesticides under the guidance of an
approved specialist.

2. Setting out Works


- For any structure/Pipeline, after site clearance, the structure/pipeline will be set out jointly by the consultant
and the contractor. Reference points will be maintained outside the excavation works for the for the
purpose of transferring the structure dimensions once excavation works are done.
- An experienced Engineering Surveyor, with an aid of automatic levels and theodolite, shall carry out
setting out of the works.

3. Excavation and Filling


a) Normal Excavation
- Major Excavations shall be carried out mechanically to a level 150mm above the desired level. The
remaining 150mm depth will be done by hand to ensure accuracy in levels.
- Where machine use is not practicable, excavation shall be done manually using unskilled labour with the
help of hand tools such as pick axes and shovels.
- Open excavations shall be securely timbered or cut to slope as may be required and whenever necessary to
the satisfaction of the Engineer. Every precaution shall be taken against slips and falls but should any
occur, restoration and reinstatement shall immediately be undertaken.
- Once the desired depths have been attained and trimmed, inspection and approval shall be sought from the
Engineer before works proceed to the next stage.
- Excavated material approved for re-use as backfill shall be deposited in spoil heaps confined to approved
areas after removal of all undesired foreign matter.
- Approved hardcore fill material shall be placed and compacted in layers as specified. Vibrating rollers will
be used to compact, but in areas where machine use is not possible, heavy hammers and hand tampers shall
be used.
- Once the desired compaction has been achieved, the voids shall be filled using sand or murram as directed.
b) Rock Excavation
- Where homogenous rock is encountered, controlled blasting will be employed, otherwise, a rock breaker
will be used.
- For rocks occurring in patches/small areas, compressors and hydraulic splitters shall be used.

4. Concrete Works
a) Preparatory Works
Prior to the actual concreting, the contractor shall do the following:
- Prepare a design mix based on the concrete grades specified on structural drawings.
- Submit the proposed design mix to client / client’s representative for approval.
- Submit request for inspection of structural members with client / client’s representative prior to concreting
works.
- Ensure that all the required machinery and personnel for the works are sufficiently and efficiently available.
These will include: Mixers/Batching Plant, Mobile Crane, Concrete Pumps, Concreting Buckets, Vibrators,
Wheelbarrows, etc. as applicable.

b) Materials

- Concreting materials such as cement, sand ballast and steel etc. shall be sourced locally.
- Materials Shall be inspected on receipt at site as per the approved shop drawings. Materials test certificates
shall be submitted for review and approval by the clients Representative.

- Materials shall be stored properly by the use of suitable lifting arrangements and care shall be taken to
prevent damages to material.
- Concrete materials shall be in accordance with the recommended standards

- The water used in concrete mortar & curing shall be clean & potable it shall be free from suspended material
organic matter and other impurities which may adversely affect the concrete.
- Reinforcement shall be neatly stacked on a timber with a good clearance from the ground.

- The concrete mix design shall meet the requirements of the contract specification and drawing.

c) Blinding

- The surface to receive the blinding concrete will be properly leveled to shape and appropriately compacted
- Blinding concrete shall be placed only after the approval of the Client’s Representative for the excavation &
compaction

d) Rebar Fixing
- Adequate access and egress shall be provided to the site for work.
- All the personnel shall wear basic personnel protective equipment.
- All the equipment, tools and tackles being used for the work should be in good working condition and
maintained.
- All the personnel will be provided with toolbox talk on the procedures to execute the work safely.
- Setting out shall be marked by the surveyor prior to proceeding.
- Necessary scaffolding shall be provided for binding fixing steel.
- Prefabricated steel shall be placed in position as per approved shop drawings of the related structural member
i.e. raft, column, beam, slab and other structural members.
- Approved 1.6mm dia. galvanized / black annealed mild steel wire shall be used to tie reinforcing bar. The
ends of the wire shall be bending back away.
- Spacer blocks of approved type will be used to maintain the cover.
- Overlap location and additional bar shall be maintained as per approved shop drawings.
- After completion of main mesh for raft, column starter bars shall be provided as per setting out details.
- For horizontal elements, after completion of the slab decking, the bottom-most layer will be completed first,
followed by the upper layers. Spacer and chairs will be provided as required.
- While fixing of steel reinforcing bars, care will be taken to see that proper concrete cover is available for
bottom, top, sides and edges.
- Wherever reinforcements are placed in two or more layers, minimum 25mm spacer shall be placed between
layers. All bars in upper layers must be placed directly above those in the bottom layers.
- Necessary dowel bars shall be provided wherever necessary as per approved shop drawings.
- Proper anchorage of bars for raft, beam, slab shall be provided as per approved shop drawings and
specifications.
- All reinforcement must be cleared to ensure that it is free from all oil, dust and deleterious materials.
- After the completion of installation of steel reinforcement and inserts, inspection and approval shall be done
prior to concrete pouring.

e) Formwork

- Formwork shall be of steel plate shutters or marine ply, and shall be erected by providing sufficient props
and struts including necessary bracing supports and jerks, ensuring that the required shape, alignment and
dimensions are as per drawings.
- It will be ensured that safe access and egress from all working platform are provided, which shall take form
of stairways or ladders.
- Gaps in formwork shall be sealed to avoid leakage of grout and to provide a pleasant finish.

- Faces of formwork in contact with concrete shall be free from adhering foreign matter, projecting nails and
the like, splits or other defects, and all formwork shall be clean and free from water, dirt, or other foreign
matter.
- Except where the surface is subsequently to be rendered, formwork in contact with the concrete shall be
treated with a suitable non-staining release agent before the steel is fixed or the concrete placed to prevent
the concrete adhering to it. Care shall be taken to prevent the release agent from touching the reinforcement
or concrete at construction joints.
- All exposed exterior angles on the finished concrete of 90 degree or less shall be given 20mm by 20mm
chamfers.

- Where ties are built into the concrete for the purpose of supporting formwork, part of any such supports shall
be capable of removal so that no part remaining embedded in the concrete shall be within 50mm of the
surface in the case of reinforced concrete or 150mm in the case of unreinforced concrete. Holes left after
removal of such supports shall be neatly filled with an approved filler material.
- Skilled carpenters assisted by semi-skilled and unskilled laborers will carry out the entire operation of fixing
and removal of formwork. The exercise will include fixing of sections of formwork, vertical and horizontal
braces, supports and platforms for transportation and placing of concrete.
- Concrete shall not be placed unless positioning, fixing condition of the reinforcement cleanliness alignment
have been checked & approved by the Client’s Representative.

f) Concreting
- All concrete works shall be carried out in accordance with the recommendations in BS 8110.
- Surveying instrument and level shall be set up during the pour, checks made to ensure that the formwork is not
moving, or if problem occurs, adjustments shall be carried out
- Adequate equipment, machinery and manpower shall be provided to carry out the concreting works.
- For the 150m3 water tank and the intake structure, volumetric batchers will be employed whereby mixing will
be carried out using mechanical concrete mixers of capacities ranging from 300 - 500 litres, as will be necessary.
- Concrete cube samples shall be taken at intervals for quality testing. Slump and Cylinder test samples shall be
taken from the discharge point in the presence of the Client’s representative.
- Concreting shall commence from a fresh location or a predetermined construction joint and continue
uninterrupted up to the next predetermined construction joint or to completion. The work shall be organized so
that the placing of concrete is efficient and continuous between specified or approved construction joints. PVC
water bars will be provided at the construction joints.
- If concreting is to commence from a construction joint, the joint shall be roughened before placing the concrete.
- Concrete will be placed from the lowest point to the final concrete level in one operation in horizontal layers.
- Compaction of concrete will be by mechanical vibrators. It will be ensured that concrete is worked into the
corners of the structural members.
- The concrete foundations shall be placed on areas compacted to at least 95% of modified proctor density.
- Concrete shall not be dropped freely where reinforcing will cause segregation nor to be dropped freely from
more than 1 meter.
- Placed concrete shall be consolidated using compatible vibrating equipment supplemented by hand spading,
rodding or toughing.
- Concrete shall be placed on a clean surface. Standing water shall be removed prior to placement of concrete.
- Every precaution shall be taken to prevent foreign materials from being introduced in the concrete from any
source.
- Concrete placed in the forms shall be to the full depth of the forms and thoroughly worked against the formwork
and around reinforcement to ensure that air bubbles formed during mixing and casting is expelled.
- Concrete shall be protected during hardening from direct sunlight, rain or running water.
- After the concrete has set, curing works will commence for the stipulated number of days.

g) Cube testing
- The minimum compressive strength at 28 days shall not be less than the one specified in technical specification.
- Contractor shall employ Company approved testing agency to perform field and laboratory testing for molded
concrete cylinders test for slump temperature of concrete.

h) Curing
- Structural concrete shall be continuously cured in accordance to the specification.
- Clean and portable water shall be used.
- Water curing shall be continuous until the compressive strength has reached 70% of specified strength but not
less than 7 days after placement.
- The saturated burlaps/gunny bags shall be used to preserve moisture on vertical surfaces.

5. Pre-Cast Concrete Works


- All the pre-cast concrete works like; fencing posts, manhole covers, etc. will be carried out at the
contractor’s main site camp and cured under controlled conditions before transportation to the site.
- Steel moulds will be used for pre-casting various items and curing conducted as stipulated in the contract.
Mechanical mixers and plate/poker vibrators will be used for mixing and compaction concrete in the
moulds respectively.
- Skilled and unskilled laborers will be employed for batching, mixing, transportation, placing and curing of
concrete for various pre-cast units.

6. Fittings to Structures/Buildings
- Generally, metallic fittings shall be fabricated at the contractor’s yard under controlled conditions,
supervised by skilled personnel.
- Qualified welders under conditions devoid of dust, rain and high winds will do all the necessary field
welding.

7. Transportation of Materials
-Materials shall be transported to the site using pick-ups and trucks. Care will be taken to prevent collision
of the materials with the vehicle body as well as the individual materials. Under no circumstance shall they
be dropped during loading/off-loading or be allowed to collide with each other.
- Within the sites, Materials shall be distributed and stored/stacked as close as possible to the
laying/installation position in order to minimize double handling.
- Storage and protection shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and the special
specifications.
- Works of any kind will be only be commenced once the materials required have been availed to ensure
quality and speedy execution.
B. REINFORCED CONCRETE INTAKE WEIR
To ensure that there is a continuous flow of the river water, the Intake Weir shall be constructed in two
halves/sections by the aid of a cofferdam. The first section will be the left hand side facing downstream whereas the
opposite side, comprising of vortex and chambers, will be referred to as the second section.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKS – INTAKE WORKS

1. Temporary Works – River Diversion and Excavation Works


This will be accomplished through construction of a diversion channel and a cofferdam

a) Diversion Channel
- A diversion channel will be built through one side of the river valley around the planned construction area.
- The river shall be channeled through a diversion channel and the cofferdam constructed around it.
- As a result of rock, a series of holes will be drilled in the rock. Explosives will be placed in the drill holes,
blasting takes place and broken rock will then be removed. This procedure will be repeated many times
until the channel is completed.

b) Cofferdam
- A cofferdam using soil filled gunny bags will be constructed to keep the construction area free of water
during the Construction of Intake Structure. Temporary water diversion pipes/channel will be laid to divert
the flow of water.
- Suction pumps will be deployed to pump out any water flowing into construction area.
- Woven polypropylene bags will be filled with coarse grain sand. The bags will be well compacted and knit
together to take up gaps between them.
- A layer of geotextile filter or impermeable layer will be placed on the retained water side of the barrier to
prevent seepage of silt through the barrier into the water. This layer will be well anchored along the base of
the barrier and will be extended above the water line, where it will also be well secured.
- Where practicable, Excavation for the concrete bases will be undertaken by CAT excavators, otherwise
manual excavation will be used.
- For rock excavation, air compressors and Rock breakers will be used. Whereas for homogenous rocks,
controlled blasting will be carried out.
- Upon completion of construction works, the final cleaning and reinstatement of the Site will be done to
Engineer’s satisfaction.

Once the proper and dry working area has been established, all other activities like site clearance, excavation and
concrete works will proceed as previously described. The construction sequence will be as follows:
C. GENERAL DESCRIPTION - PIPEWORK AND FITTINGS
1. Clearance, setting out and Excavation
- The site of pipeline route will be cleared both mechanically and manually as will be applicable.
- The pipeline routes will then be surveyed and marked. The pipeline survey will be carried out by a qualified and
experienced surveyor with an aid of theodolite and automatic levels. The engineer’s representative will check
the setting out on request by the contractor.
- Once the setting out is approved, the original ground levels will be taken from which plans and profiles will be
produced and submitted to the Engineers for approval.

- Once the profile is approved by the Resident Engineer, trench excavation will commence. The excavation of
trench to specified depths will be carried out by manual labour or mechanical excavator, whichever is
practicable. However, the trimming, leveling and bedding operations will be carried out using manual labour.
Rock excavation will be carried out using jacks mounted on an air compressor.
- Where the depth of excavation is more than 1.5m of the existing ground is unstable, the sides of the trench shall
be sloped outwards or timbering be done to prevent soil collapsing hence causing accidents.
- Special care will be taken to ensure that the existing pipeline, if any, is not damaged during the
construction/installation of new/replacement pipeline. In case of accidentally damaging an existing pipeline,
immediate repair will be done to restore water supply to the consumers.

2. Transportation and Deliveries of pipes and fittings


- From the supplier, pipes/fittings will be delivered to the contractor’s main yard for temporary storage.
- The pipes and or fittings will then be transported from the main site to the trench/installation sites, using
pick-ups and/or trucks, which ever practicable.
- The pipes will be strung along the trench, well protected and kept ready for installation upon completion of
trench excavation works. The mechanical equipment, assisted with manual laborers, will be used for
loading and offloading the pipes.
- At inaccessible sections generally, pipes will be transferred and strung manually with extra care or using
mechanical winch whichever is practicable.

3. Installation of Pipes, fittings and backfilling


- Hand operated tools will be used for fixing of joints. Skilled and semi-skilled workmen will be employed
to carry out this exercise.
- The trenches will then be backfilled and compacted in layers using hand tampers and vibratory soil
compactors where applicable.
- The hydraulic testing of pipelines will be carried out as specified and as described in the subsequent
section.
- The final reinstatements of pipe trenches will be carried out after the completion of civil works and testing
of pipeline.

4. Hydraulic/Pressure Testing of Pipelines


- The Engineer shall be Informed of Pipeline Pressure Testing ahead of 24 hours.
- Testing shall not commence until after all the permanent anchor blocks along the pipeline (Section) have
been constructed and soil around them backfilled and compacted. Capped or flanged ends along the
pipeline shall also be anchored adequately to withstand the force due to test pressure.
- After the pipeline has been cleared of debris, and all necessary stop- ends and gauges fitted to the
Engineer's approval, the Contractor shall fill up the pipe with water free from silt, and sand and grit and
bring up the pressure steadily to the nominal pressure of the pipe or incorporated fittings, whichever is the
lesser, and maintain it with a force pump for 24 hours.
- Leaks exceeding permissible amounts shall be made good. Faulty pipes, fittings, and specials, shall be
replaced by the Contractor and the section tested again
- As a safety precaution during the process of the test, anyone is forbidden to access the ending and starting
points and pipes and there shall be a supervisor to inspect the pipes in case of dismantling and deformation.
If any abnormal phenomenon is found, it should be reported. After the test, the water release valve should
be opened slowly. When the pressure left in the pipe is sure be lower than the working pressure, the
pressure testing can move to next step.

Water for the Pressure Testing


- We propose to purchase the piped water to do the test from the existing network to conduct our tests.
- In order to conserve the water, the water used for the test shall be left in the qualified pipe and drawn out to
the section of pipe in the next test, if any. The recycling of the water is beneficial to the protection of the
public environment. The water used for the final test shall be discharged to the nature.

5. Pipeline – Civil works:-


- These shall include: chambers, surface boxes, thrust blocks, concrete surround to pipes, anchor block,
marker posts among other concrete structures along the pipeline.
- The construction of civil works will be executed as soon as the pipes fittings and valves are installed.
- The manual skilled and semi-skilled labour will be employed to execute these works.

D. PREVENTION OF POLLUTION
- Taking into account the location of the project, measures shall be taken to limit noise levels during
construction. Dust emanating from our operations shall be controlled through regular spraying of
working/bare areas with water.
- We shall also ensure that pollution of the ground does not occur as a result of our activities.

E. HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Supervisor shall ensure that all necessary health and safety procedures are adhered to during formwork, steel
bar fixing and concreting.
- Supervisor shall ensure that all necessary health and safety procedures during the field survey, Site
preparation, setting out and excavation work.
- All laborers shall wear safety shoes, overall and helmets at all times on site.
- Equipment shall be checked periodically and maintained in good condition.
- Nails protruding from used wooden formwork representing a potential hazard shall be removed immediately
after striking and removing the formwork.
- Used and new materials shall be stored separately.
- In case of night work, adequate lighting shall be provided.
- The supervisor shall be responsible for good housekeeping. Temporary and permanent construction materials
such as wood, plywood, steel reinforcement and shutter panels shall be kept separately and stored on the job
site in an orderly manner. Rejected or excess materials shall be removed from the site.

F. PROGRAMME OF WORKS
- The construction period is 6 months from the start date.
- For the timing, sequence and duration for the various major activities of works, please refer to the
annexed Construction Programme.

POST CONSTRUCTION SERVICES

At the end of construction, the project will be practically complete and handed to the client. The Contractor will
continue to undertake the following:

i. Defects Liability Period and Final Site Handover


The Contractor will be available during this period be available to monitor and manage any defect occurring due to
faulty workmanship or materials.

ii. Reinstatement of the borrow pit


The contractor will move to the borrow pit upon completion of works on site to reinstate the borrow pit making it
safe for the surrounding community. This will be done by ensuring no pond formation for collection of water as
life may be lost if one drowns when the pond is full of water. Also the side slopes will be made gentle i.e. 1V:2H
this is to ensure that no animal or human being fall into the quarry due to steep slopes. All the spoil material
may be used to reinstate the quarry upon Engineers’ instruction.

iii. Final Account


There may be instructions of omissions, additions and variations which would have been issued during construction.
It is the Contractor’s duty to assist the Quantity Surveyor to prepare a final project account. The instruments to be
employed will include site records, variation orders and re - measurements.
