Week 6 Lesson 1 - Answer Sheet
Section A
1.
2.
a. Urethra
b. Cancer may cause the prostate to become enlarged, constrict the urethra and
possibly put pressure against the bladder, if large enough. As a result, he may be
unable to start urination, may suffer from incomplete emptying of the bladder or
have a weak urine stream.
3. Semen is primarily made up of seminal fluids that are produced in the seminal vesicle. It
is a medium to support and transport the sperm on its journey to fertilization. Human
semen contains enzymes as well as fructose that promote healthy sperms and help the
motility/movement of sperms. Semen is also alkaline which helps to protect the sperm
from the acidic environment of the uterus to achieve fertilization.
4. To produce spermatozoa/sperms, the testicles/testes need to be at a temperature lower
than the rest of the body. For this reason, the testes are contained in the scrotum that is
located outside of the body so that it can maintain an optimal temperature for the
production of sperms.
5. The blood vessels of the corpora cavernosa relax and open up, causing blood to rush in
and fill them. The blood then gets trapped under high pressure which produces an
erection.
