Write the advantage and disadvantage of

raster and vector graphics?


Raster graphics, also known as bitmap
graphics, are images composed of pixels.
Each pixel represents a specific color, and
when combined, they form a complete
image. Common raster formats include
JPEG, PNG, and GIF. Unlike vector graphics,
which use mathematical equations to
represent images, raster graphics are
resolution-dependent, meaning they can
lose quality when scaled up or down. They
are widely used in photography, digital art,
and web graphics.
Raster Graphics
Advantages:
1. Detail and Complexity: Can represent intricate details and
complex images with subtle color variations.
2. Realism: Ideal for photographs and realistic images due to
pixel-based representation.
3. Ease of Use: Simple to create and edit using various
software.
Disadvantages:
1. Resolution Dependent: Quality degrades when scaled up;
can become pixelated.
2. File Size: Larger file sizes compared to vector graphics,
especially at high resolutions.
3. Limited Scalability: Not suitable for designs requiring
resizing without loss of quality.

Vector Graphics
Vector graphics are images created using
mathematical equations to define shapes, lines,
and colors. This approach allows for scalability
without loss of quality, making them ideal for
logos, illustrations, and designs that need to be
resized frequently. Common vector file formats
include SVG, AI, and EPS. Unlike raster graphics,
which are pixel-based and can lose clarity when
enlarged, vector graphics maintain sharpness at
any size.

Advantages:
1. Scalability: Can be resized without losing quality, making
them ideal for logos and illustrations.
2. Smaller File Size: Generally, vector files are smaller because
they store information as mathematical formulas.
3. Editability: Easy to modify individual elements without
affecting the overall image.
Disadvantages:
1. Detail Limitations: Not suitable for complex images or
detailed photographs.
2. Software Compatibility: May require specific software to
create and edit.
3. Learning Curve: Can be more challenging for beginners
compared to raster graphics.
