Jamila's blog
I used to wish that I lived in a nicer neighborhood which was a more eco-friendly place with fewer cars. I wished
there wasn't so much trash in the park. And I wished it was safer, with fewer bad people in the streets. Finally, I
used to wish that the people were more friendly.
I wanted the town council to put on more buses into the town center. I wanted it to plant trees, pick up trash, and
put up security camera equipment in the streets.
Then I thought … why do I want the council to do something? Why don't I do something about all the things which
are wrong with the neighborhood? Well, not just me on my own, but me and my family, and all my friends and
relatives who live here. And, of course, my neighbors!
I started a neighborhood group and, at our first meeting, we decided to walk or cycle everywhere in the town. Next,
we got the council to allow us to plant more trees in the park, so we do that every weekend. At the same time, we
pick up trash and take as much as possible for recycling. The council members did not want to put cameras in all
the streets to stop bad people because they were very expensive, so we put up cameras on our own houses. Now
we can see everything which happens in our neighborhood, especially at night.
And doing all the things together in the neighborhood has made it a friendlier place to live, because everyone who
lives here knows each other now.
Are there problems in your neighborhood? If so, do the same as me, then write me how it goes!

A
I go somewhere different on vacation every year. I love ancient history, so I always choose a place that has
interesting castles or monuments of some sort. This year, I saw an advert for a Greek island. It said that the old
buildings were some of the best from that period of history, and it was right! I loved everything there except the
bed and breakfast place I stayed in. It wasn't very clean, and the food was not 'mouth-watering' like the advert said!
B
I don't go on vacation to spend the whole two weeks traveling round a new area on trains or buses. My idea of a
good holiday is a quiet hotel, near a beach, which has fresh fish and fresh vegetables for every meal. I don't mind if
some of the things have a strange taste – that's why I travel! Next summer, I'm going to Vietnam, and I'm sure the
food there will be more tasty than anything I ate before.
C
The travel agent who sold us the vacation said that it was the best holiday that they offered, and she wasn't wrong!
The hotel was part of the theme park, so I only had to walk a few hundred yards to each of the roller coasters,
which were thrilling. My husband was happy because he could spend the day relaxing on the beach, and for both of
us, it was the holiday of a lifetime.
