AIRCRAFT FEASIBILITY STUDY PROPOSAL ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW

The Aircraft Feasibility Study Proposal Assignment is the culminating project for AVIA. This

handout introduces the business proposal project and describes the required assignment elements.

A workflow chart is provided (Figure 1) so you can better picture how various assignments and

resources relate. The resources used for this assignment include these instructions, the Aircraft

Feasibility Study Excel file, and the Aircraft Feasibility Study Proposal Template.

BACKGROUND & INSTRUCTIONS

In the culminating assignment of our Corporate and Business Aviation Management course,

students will develop their analysis skills by conducting an Aircraft Feasibility Study for a

fictitious aggregate company. This study serves as a bridge between theoretical knowledge and

practical application, challenging students to integrate principles of business management with

aviation expertise. Through this assignment, students will delve into the complexities of aircraft

selection, considering factors such as operational requirements, financial feasibility, and strategic

alignment with the company's goals. Armed with analytical tools and data provided in an

accompanying Microsoft Excel file, students will navigate the intricate landscape of aircraft

options to recommend an on-demand travel solution for the company's unique needs.

Preparing an Aircraft Feasibility Study is an important skill within the field of business aviation

management. Beyond the surface level of selecting a mode of transportation, this study serves as

a cornerstone in strategic decision-making for organizations. By meticulously evaluating various

aircraft options, companies can optimize their resources, enhance operational efficiency, and

ultimately drive sustainable growth. Moreover, in an industry where safety, reliability, and cost-

effectiveness are paramount, conducting a thorough feasibility study mitigates risks and ensures

informed decision-making. As such, this assignment exposes students to essential skills in

Assignment Format

A business proposal is the format for this assignment. This is not a college paper. This is the kind

of document you would hand to a decision-maker. By definition, a business proposal outlines a

specific project, product, or service offering by presenting a plan to address a particular need or

opportunity within a business context. It typically includes an introduction, background

information, objectives, proposed solution or approach, timeline, budget, and potential benefits.

A proposal aims to persuade stakeholders, such as investors, clients, or decision-makers, to

support or approve the proposed initiative. In our case, an on-demand travel solution.

The proposal format is particularly suitable for an aircraft feasibility study due to its structured

approach and emphasis on presenting a clear and logical argument. Within the context of

aviation, where decisions involve significant investments and risk considerations, the proposal

format provides a framework for organizing complex information, analysis, and

recommendations. By following a standardized format, students can effectively communicate

their findings, rationale, and conclusions regarding aircraft selection, ensuring that key

stakeholders can easily grasp the implications and make informed decisions. Additionally, the

proposal format encourages students to think critically about the feasibility study's components,

fostering a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing aircraft acquisition decisions

Assignment Requirements

Your Aircraft Feasibility Study proposal must be a document and must include:

1. Eight Proposal Sections:

 Cover Page—a standard format would be fine

 Executive Summary Page—Seecomments below

 Objective 1 Page—Must incorporate your City-Pair Analysis

 Objective 2 Page—Must incorporate an analysis of aircraft specifications and

company needs

 Objective 3 Page—Must incorporate analysis tools like Relative Value or Selection

Matrix

 Objective 4 Page—Must incorporate an analysis of costs and on-demand methods

 Recommendation Page—Let this be a type of conclusion; make a recommendation

 References Page—list any outside or other sources used in your proposal

 Appendix (if applicable)

2. Executive Summary:

 Provide a brief description of the problem and proposed solution.

 Do not get too specific here…keep comments here high-level

3. Proposal Objectives:

  Craft four clear statements that will be addressed in their own sections/pages of the

proposal.

 Each of these four objectives supportsyour recommendation in some way.

 These objectives should be easily identifiable on the ExecutiveSummary page and at

the top of each of their respective section pages.See Template

 You may incorporate ideas developed during course discussion threads or textbook

content as your proposal objectives.

4. Section Finding Statements:

 Include one finding statement under each objective statement at the top of their

respective pagethat would be considered a significant finding as a result of your

analysis based on that stated objective.

 You may use the provided example in the City-Pair Analysis Results section of the

template to get you started.

 The finding statement should be only one statement that adds clarity and support.

 These will be summarized at the end of the document in the Recommendations

section.

5. Original Data Visuals

 Each section should include at least one data visual.

 Plan to explain your visual on its respective page. Avoid just placing the visual in the

document and expecting your audience to have the same thoughts when they see the

chart, table, or graph that you had while making it.

6. Recommendations:

 This is your conclusion. Incorporate your Finding Statements as summarizing points.

  The template offers some ideas for this page, but feel free to either copy or create

your own page that summarizes your solution to this travel problem.

Other Assignment Elements

1. You must submit either a Microsoft Word document or a PDF. I prefer the PDF since it

will maintain your page layout better than Word.

2. Plan on the document being a minimum of eight pages.

3. You have creative rights. Make up your own company name, proposal theme, etc.
