1. Introduction

Instek Digital NVR Failover (FO) Server is a redundant NVR server which
automatically takes over operation of the NVR server in case of a
malfunction. Ensuring non-stop NVR recording – Instek Digital designed the
NVR Failover Server.

The NVR FO Server eliminates risk of malfunction of the NVR server. The
redundant NVR will continuously detect whether the NVR is still functional
and immediately takes over Instek Digital NVR Failover Server operations.
Instek Digital NVR Failover Server can monitor multiple NVRs and take over
recording responsibilities in case of a malfunction at any given time.

2. NVR Failover Server Setup

To setup a NVR Failover Server – please take the following steps:

1. Click the Setup button on Instek Digital Command Center;

2. Click the Subscribe Video Recorder tab;
3. Enter the IP Address, Command Port, Live Port and Playback Port of
the NVR FO server;

4. Click on the Failover Server Setup tab and the NVR Failover Server
Web Page will be displayed on Internet Explorer.

To setup the NVR Failover Server using a web page – please take the steps
as described in chapter 3.4.

3. Login NVR Failover Server Web Browser

To access Instek Digital NVR FO Server web page – please take the
following steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer;

2. Type the NVR FO Server URL in the address bar (for example
http://172.16.0.97:59999/fo)
3. Insert your User Name;
4. Insert your Password;
5. Click Login.

Note: The default user name is admin and password is id.

Note: If you use Instek Digital NVR Failover Server for the first time –
please install Instek Digital SDK (software development kit). Many web
interface features will not function without this installation. Click Download
and run the installation to complete the process.

4. NVR FO Server Settings

To configure the NVR FO Server settings – click Settings and take the
following steps:

4.1 Setup NVR monitoring

4.1.1 Add NVR

1. Click NVR List from the device tree;

2. Click + Add;
3. The following window will appear;

4. Insert the IP Address of the designated NVR;

5. Click Submit to confirm.

Note: The default Port Number is 60009.

4.1.2 Edit NVR

1. Click NVR List from the device tree;

2. Click Edit;
3. The following window will appear;

4. Change the IP Address is necessary;

5. Mark the Enable check box – if you want the NVR to be monitors at the
moment;
6. Click Submit to confirm.

4.1.3 Delete NVR

1. Click Delete to remove NVR’s that do not need to be monitored.

2. Click OK to confirm.

4.2 Setup Failover Groups

To setup a Failover Group – please take the following steps:

4.2.1 Add Failover NVR Server

1. Click Failover Groups from the device tree;

2. Click + Add;
3. The following window will appear;

4. Insert the IP Address of the Failover Server;

Note: default Failover Port is 2520 and Command Port is 60009.

4.2.2 Edit Failover NVR Server

1. Click Failover Groups from the device tree;

2. Click Edit;
3. The following window will appear;

4. Change the IP Address if necessary;

5. Mark the Enable check box – if you do not want the NVR to be monitors
at the moment;

Note: The default Port Number is 60009.

6. Click Submit to confirm.

4.2.3 Delete Failover NVR Server

1. Click Delete to remove a Failover NVR Server;

2. Click OK to confirm.

Note: In the Failover Group one of the NVR FO Servers will be assigned to
act as the Master FO NVR Server. The Master FO NVR Server will
automatically take over in case of a failing NVR. In any case the Master FO
NVR Server also fails – another Failover NVR Server in the FO Group List
will be assigned as Master FO NVR Server and this server will take over the
functionalities of the failing NVR.

5. History
To playback video which is stored on the NVR FO Server – please take the
following steps:

1. Click History in the device tree;

2. Select the Layout (1x1 or 2x2).

5.1 1x1 Layout

When you select the 1x1 layout – you can simple select the desired camera
by clicking the channel drag and drop menu. Please take the following steps:

1. The start and end time of the FO period is shown automatically – by

moving the Time Slider – you can narrow down the time-frame of your
desired video.

2. Click the Playback button to view the video;

3. To download video – click the Download button and insert the

location to store the video or click the Browse button to

automatically select the download location. Click the Start button

to download the video clip.

5.2 2x2 Layout

The 2x2 layout provides you four video players and before you can select a
camera – you need to select the desired video player. To view video –
please take the following steps:

1. Select the desired video player from the video drop-down menu;

2. Select the desired camera from the Channel drop-down menu;

3. The start and end time of the FO period is shown for each NVR FO
Server – by moving the Time Slider – you can narrow down the time-
frame of your desired video.
4. Click the Playback button to view the video;

5. To download video – click the Download button and insert the

location to store the video or click the Browse button to

automatically select the download location. Click the Start button

to download the video clip.

6. Set the start and end time of the playback video. Drag the Time Slider to
select the desired start and end time;

7. Click the Playback button to view the video.

Note: In case the NVR goes return in normal function mode – you can view
the video from the NVR FO Server going into standby using the Web Player.
8. To download the stored video on the NVR FO Server – click on the

Download button and insert the download location or click the

Browse button followed by clicking the Start button

to start downloading the video.

Note: The downloaded video is the same as the playback video – so you
first need to select the start and end time as in step 5.

6. Command Center Setup

In order for Command Center to detect the NVR Failover server – you first
have to make some setting adjustments.

Start-up Command Center (CC) and select the Setup tab – followed by
Server Setup. Select the server that you require and re-start Command
Center in order to these changes to take effect.

Appendix: NVR Failover Server Architecture

When there are multiple NVR Failover Servers in the network – Instek
Digital Command Center VMS shows this as following:

The master NVR FO Server status be displayed as Monitoring in the

device tree and the slave NVR FO Server status will be displayed as
Standby.

In case the NVR stopped working or disconnects (1) – the NVR FO Server
will take over the operations of the NVR and Instek Digital Command Center
will show the follow – the status from Monitoring will change into Taking
Over (2) and the slave NVR FO Server changes the status from Standby to
Monitoring (3) to monitor the original master NVR FO Server.
