Installation Instructions

Cautions READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS- Follow the instructions in this installation manual. These instructions must be
and followed to avoid damage to this product and associated equipment. Product operation and reliability depend upon proper
Warnings installation.

DO NOT INSTALL ANY SIMPLEX® PRODUCT THAT APPEARS DAMAGED- Upon unpacking your Simplex product,
inspect the contents of the carton for shipping damage. If damage is apparent, immediately file a claim with the carrier and notify
an authorized Simplex product supplier.

ELECTRICAL HAZARD - Disconnect electrical field power when making any internal adjustments or repairs. All repairs should
be performed by a representative or authorized agent of your local Simplex product supplier.

STATIC HAZARD - Static electricity can damage components. Handle as follows:

• Ground yourself before opening or installing components.
• Prior to installation, keep components wrapped in anti-static material at all times.

EYE SAFETY HAZARD - Under certain fiber optic application conditions, the optical output of this device may exceed eye
safety limits. Do not use magnification (such as a microscope or other focusing equipment) when viewing the output of this device.

FCC RULES AND REGULATIONS – PART 15 - This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital
device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the
equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed
and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a res-
idential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.

Introduction The 4100-6066 Addressable TFX Loop Interface Card is a 4100U or 4100ES Fire Alarm Control Panel
(FACP), 4x5 module that communicates to a single TFX loop with isolated loop circuitry. During
AUTOCALL® TFX-500 or TFX-800 control panel migration to 4100U or 4100ES, the TFX Loop card
provides the means to retain existing TFX loop wiring and addressable devices.

Introduction to the TFX Loop Card

Overview The 4100-6066 Addressable TFX Loop Interface Card is a FACP module that creates TFX loop
communications providing a means to replace a TFX-500 or TFX-800 Series control panel with a
4100U or 4100ES control panel. The TFX Loop card accommodates a single TFX loop with loop
circuitry electrically isolated from the FACP Master panel.

Note: The existing TFX ALXM, ALXM-LP communications modules are not isolated.

Physical The card (shown in Figure 1) is a flat, 4"x5" form-factor module that plugs into the FACP power
Specification distribution interface (PDI).

Step 2: Configuring the TFX Loop Card

Programming Setting the Address

the TFX Loop
1. The module address is set via DIP Switch SW1, which is a bank of eight switches. From left to
Card
right (see the figure below) these switches are designated as SW1-1 through SW1-8. The
function of these switches is as follows:
• SW1-1: This switch sets the baud rate for the internal 4100 communications line running
between the Module and the 4100 CPU. Set this switch to ON.
• SW1-2 through SW1-8: These switches set the Module address within the 4100 FACP. Refer to
Table 2 for a complete list of switch settings for all of the possible module addresses.

Note: Set these switches to the value assigned to the module by the Programmer.

Step 3: Wiring the TFX Loop Card to Addressable Devices

Overview This section will discuss the wiring topology and the TFX Loop card’s interface protocol with
addressable TFX devices. Refer to Appendix A for a list of all supported TFX addressable devices.

Field Wiring The field wiring of the TFX Loop card with addressable devices follow these specifications:
Specifications • Max devices per loop: 99
• TFX device addresses allowed: 1 to 126
• Loop Wiring of FACP TFX Loop Card: Style 4 or 6
• Wire size = 12 - 18 AWG (3.31 - 0.82 mm2)
• 6500 ft (1981 m) Twisted shielded pair for one continuous run
• 75 ohms (inclusive of CAA 500-LI isolators which add approximately 2 ohms each, max of 12
per loop)
• 0.5uF mutual
• 1.5mH
• Shield terminates at the Loop Card only
• Maximum voltage: 26.5V
• Maximum Current: 500mA peak
• Data Rate: 1.638Kb/sec
• Ground Fault detection: 10K
• All Loop Wiring is supervised
• All loop wiring is power limited

Note: “T” tapped wiring is permitted as long as the overall wiring complies with the
previously mentioned LCR parameters.

Wiring The TFX comms loop is a two-wire interface with the loop card acting as a master-transmitter.
Topologies The protocol is designed so that devices respond to their address match by replying to a TFX
device command. The protocol is half-duplex, the slaves respond to the master transmitter by
sinking current (range 0-25mA). The card includes left and right loop drivers to support style 6
communications.
