STEP 1
Cybersecurity is very broad, some fields are
technical, ( meaning they require some
programming and basic scripting). Some
technical areas are network security, ethical
hacking and so on.

Non-technical skills on the other hand do not

require any coding or technical background.
One example is GRC.

So it’s important to do your research and know

where your interest lies. Go to Youtube, there
are a lot of great courses to help you do that.

In addition, ISC2 offers free training and and

exams, it’s also one of the best entry level
certifications out there

Certified in Cybersecurity Certification | ISC2

STEP 2
Build Practical Skills/Join a bootcamp: While a
formal degree in cyber security or a related
field is beneficial, it's not the only path, many
successful professionals are self-taught.

Cyber security is very much a practical field,

practical experience is more valuable than
certifications when you are just starting out.
Engage in hands-on practice through online
learning platforms like HackTheBox.com
TryHackMe.com, Coursera, TCM academy .

You can also find good bootcamps around, we

recommend our forthcoming Cybersecurity
GRC bootcamp, it is packed with so much
useful information, tips and hands on training
to take you from zero to hero and land your
first cyber security job in no time.

STEP 3

Consider Certifications: If you are just starting

out with any IT background or work experience
it is recommended you get certification
CompTIA Security+ and ISC2 Certified in
Cybersecurity (CC) are great foundation
Certifications to have.

STEP 4

Create an Online Presence and Network:

Showcase your skills and passion for cyber
security by, sharing your progress on LinkedIn,
writing a blog, or sharing your project work on
platforms like GitHub. This will make you more
visible to potential employers. Connect with
professionals in the field through Linkedin,
online forums, social media, or conferences.
Networking can provide valuable insights,
advice, and even job leads.

STEP 5

Tailor Your CV and Cover Letter: Highlight

relevant education, projects, certifications, and
any experience in your CV. Be sure to tailor
your CV for each application. Having an ATS
standard CV is key to securing an interview.

STEP 6

Apply Strategically: Apply for roles that match

your skill level, and you are confident about.
Don’t shy away from applying for experience
roles, you may be lucky! Don’t be discouraged
by job descriptions that seem to ask for
everything; these are often wish-lists rather
than strict requirements.

STEP 7

interview questions for cyber security roles and
practice your answers. Be ready to discuss your
projects, how you solved problems, and keep
up-to-date with the latest trends and threats in
