2) A vehicle moving at constant speed travels 1 kilometer per minute. The vehicle moves speed
for 100 minutes and travels 100km.

a) Write the function f that gives the distance (km) traveled with respect to time (min) since
the vehicle started moving.
b) Draw the graph of the function.
3) Fill in the blanks.

a) A function 𝑓 defined on the real numbers by 𝑓 (𝑥) = 𝑥 is a ……… function.

b) 𝑓: 𝐴 → 𝐵
A is called the …….. of the function and B is called the ………. of the function.
c) In a function, the set of all possible values that the independent variable can take is
known as the ………… of the function.
d) In a function, the set of all possible values that the dependent variable can take as a
result is known as the ……….. of the function.
e) In the function f, the value of x that satisfies the equation 𝑓(𝑥) = 0 is called the
……….. of the function f.
f) If, within a given interval where the function is defined, the values of the independent
variable increase while the values of the dependent variable also increase, then the
function is said to be ………. on that interval.
g) Conversely, if the values of the independent variable increase while the values of the
dependent variable decrease within a given interval, then the function is said to be
…………..on that interval.

h) A function f is ………..(injective) if different x values in the domain correspond to

different f(x) values. Similarly, if a single f(x) value in the range corresponds to only
one x value in the domain.
i) For 𝑓: ℝ → ℝ, if 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏 and 𝑏𝜖ℝ , then when 𝑎 = 0 the function f(x)=b is called a
…………. function.
j) ∀ 𝑎, 𝑏 ∈ ℝ and the function f defined on [a,b].

7) An administrator is monitoring the energy consumption of two factories over time to
optimize energy usage. The energy consumption rates (in kilowatts per hour) are modeled by
the following functions:

• Factory A: 𝑓(𝑥) = 6𝑥

• Factory B: 𝑔(𝑥) = 8𝑥

Here, 𝑥 represents the number of hours since the beginning of the monitoring period.

a. Calculate the total energy consumed by both factories at 𝑡 = 4 hours and 𝑡 = 8 hours.
Fill in the table below:

Time Factory A Factory B

(hours) f(x) g(x)

b. Draw the graph of both functions on the same coordinate system.

Interpret the slopes and y intercept of the function in the given context.

c. Using the slopes of the graphs, explain which factory has higher energy consumption.

d. Find the zeros of the functions.

What do these zeros represent in the context of energy consumption?

e. Determine whether the functions are increasing, decreasing or constant.

Justify your answer using the graph.
