1. Introduction:

This document contains load calculation and design of columns, beams,

column bracings of Transfer House BJH-1.

2. Codes & Standards:

1.IS 800:2007
2.IS 875 (Part-I)-1987
3.IS 875 (Part-II)-1987
4.IS 875 (Part-III)-2015
5.IS 1893 (Part-I ,Part-IV)

3. Assignment Drawings:

NMDC/KPIL/BP05/BP/55/DE/B1/1679 -R4 (1 SHEET)

4. Design Methodology:

Analysis & preparation of Structural Design calculations with Staad for Transfer House.

5. Design Philosophy:

• This steel structure has been analysed and designed in Staad Pro software by preparing 3D
model.
• All column base are pinned in both directions.
• Column-beam connections, Beam-beam connections and bracing connections are all Bolt
connections.
• Vertical deflection of Floor Beam girder has been limited to Span/500 & Span/325 under
DL+LL Load condition which can be seen in STAAD analysis results.
• The horizontal deflection of the Structure in the transverse direction has been checked and kept
within Height/500 the same can be seen in STAAD analysis results.

6. Load Considerations:
The loading on structure is considered from IS codes and Design Basis. Following are the primary load
cases defined in the STAAD FILE

Table 1 : Primary Load Cases

1. Seismic load

Seismic load calculated as per is-1893 (part-1) 2016

Seismic zone iii with z = 0.16 as per table-3
Importance factor=1.5 as per table-8
Response reduction factor=4.0 as per table-9 for braced frames
Soil type=2 for hard soil
Structure type=2 for steel structure
Approx. Fundamental natural period, ta=0.09h/√d
Seismic weight of the building=full dead load + percentage of live load as per table 10.

2. Dead load

a)Self weight y -1.2

(consider self weight of all structural components and add 20% extra for connections)

b) Roof dead loads (consider 500 mm roof sheeting projection on both sides)
Roof sheeting = @7 kg/m2
Purlin + cleat = @15 kg/m2
Total = (7+15) = 25 kg/m2
Consider 500mm roof sheeting projection on both sides
UDL on line-1 rafter = (5.25m/2+0.5m) x 0.25 kn/m2 = 0.78 kn/m
UDL on line-1’ rafter = (5.25m) x 0.25 kn/m2 = 1.31 kn/m
UDL on line- 2 rafters = (5.25m/2+0.5m) x 0.25 kn /m2 = 0.78 kn/m
UDL on line-1 & 1’ rafters for Stair = (3m/2+0.5m) x 0.25 kn /m2 = 0.5 kn/m

c) side sheeting + runner & cleats @30kg/m2

(consider 500 mm sheeting projection on both sides)

4
d) Floor Dead Loads
(Applicable for floors at RL+652.450, RL+655.150, Rl+657.450)
DL of gratings @ 45 kg/m2.
Concrete floor with Deck Sheet is 500 Kg/m2 .

e) Hand railing @15 kg/m

g) Dead Load on stair assuming dl @ 150 kg/m per flight (with chq pl, stringer self wt, handrail)
Considering 7.5m span for each stringer
Load coming on each stringer connection point=1.5*7.5 = 11.25 kn

h) DL For Existing conv. gallery

Conv. No.-102 (existing) 9.015m gallery is supported near row-A
load from 12.3m gallery is taken from gallery staad
Conv. No.-102 (existing) 10.775 m gallery is supported near row-C
load from 10.75 m gallery is taken from gallery staad

3. Live load

a)Roof live load @ 75 kg/m2

(UDL on each frame is indicated in STAAD Editor)

b) Live load on operational floor @ 400 kg/m2

(Applicable for floors at RL+652.450, RL+655.150, Rl+657.450)

c) Live load on Maintenance platform @300 kg/m2

(Applicable for floors at RL+661.050)

d) Live load on stair

Assuming LL @ 250kg/sq. M per stringer
Considering 7.5m span for each stringer
Load coming on each stringer connection point=7.5*2.5*1.2/2=11.25 Kn

e) live load (i.e. Mat + L.L + Dust + Spillage + Service) from conv. Gallery
Conv. No.-102 (existing) 9.015m gallery is supported near row-A
load from 12.3m gallery is taken from gallery staad
Conv. No.-102 (existing) 10.775 m gallery is supported near row-C
load from 10.75 m gallery is taken from gallery staad

f) Monorail Load for 3 T Monorail

(Cap*1.25 + Crab Wt. + Monorail Beam) = (3 ton*1.25) +0.5 ton+0.55 ton~4.8 t)

g) Spillage live load on platform over seal pl. @75 kg/m2

4. Dust load

a) Roof Dust load @ 50 kg/m2

b) Floor Dust load @100 kg/m2

6. Belt tension load-1 & 2

BELT TEN. (BELT PULL)

BELT TEN. (BELT SNAP)

7. Horizontal gallery load

Since gallery for Conv. No.-102 (existing) is supported between junction house & Tressel, due to
temperature expansion of the gallery a horizontal frictional force will be generated. The same has
been considered as 10% of the total vertical load on the support point.

8. Material load

9. Wind load

7
WIND LOAD FROM CONV. GALL.

A) Longitudinal load taken from gallery staad

B) Transverse load taken from gallery staad
