Main control valve (32) is a side-by-side design that uses a single valve body. Main control valve (32) uses internal passages to combine
flow for the boom and stick circuits.

1. Pump 1 (50) oil is delivered through pressure port (43), center bypass passage (30), and return port (1) to hydraulic tank (49). Pump
1 (50) delivers oil to the following components:
11: 4/0 8 D3
Boom 1 control valve (54)
024
2 (51) delivers oil to the following components:
a. The main relief valve (23) limits the main hydraulic system pressure.
b. The pilot pressure reducing valve (17) limits the pilot circuit pressure.
c. The line relief valve (25) (bucket cylinder head end) and line relief valve (26) (bucket cylinder rod end) limit the pressure in the
bucket hydraulic system due to external forces.
d. The line relief valve (16) (boom cylinder head end) and line relief valve (28) (boom cylinder rod end) limits the pressure in the
boom hydraulic system due to external forces.
e. The line relief valve (20) (stick cylinder head end) and line relief valve (21) (stick cylinder rod end) limits the pressure in the stick
hydraulic system due to external forces.
f. The boom drift reduction valve (27) stops oil leakage from the head end of the boom cylinders.
h. The stick unloading valve (62) reduces the back pressure in the rod end of the stick cylinder during the stick IN function.
i. The swing priority solenoid (63) limits the amount of oil supplied to stick 1 control valve when swing priority is activated. This
function allows for a higher swing force used during loading, leveling, and trenching operations.
j. Load check valves are part of the following control valves: bucket control valve, boom 1 control valve, stick 2 control valve,
boom 2 control valve, swing control valve and stick 1 control valve.
When main control valve (32) is in the NEUTRAL position, no pump oil flows to the cylinders and the motors. Operation of main
control valve (32), in the NEUTRAL position, is described later in this section.
Main control valve (32) prevents cylinder drift with the load check valves. For more information on the load check valves, refer to
Systems Operation, "Check Valve (Load)".
Main control valve (32) limits the circuit pressure with relief valve operation. For more information on the limitation of circuit
pressure, refer to Systems Operation, "Relief Valve (Main)" and Systems Operation, "Relief Valve (Line)".
The description of other components that are installed on main control valve (32) or in the main control valve will be listed separately.
Refer to the appropriate sections that are in this manual for further information on the components.

Main control valve (neutral position)
(1) Return port
(18) Center bypass passage
c. g06192599
When all the joysticks and/or travel levers/pedals are in the NEUTRAL position, pump 1 oil flows through center bypass passage (30),
return passage (24) or return passage (29), and return port (1) back to the hydraulic tank. Pump 2 oil flows through center bypass
passage (18), return passage (29), and return port (1) back to the hydraulic tank.
Activation of any joystick and/or travel levers/pedals provides two paths for pump 2 oil. One path flows through center bypass passage
(18) to left travel control valve (58), swing control valve (59), and stick 1 control valve (60). The other path flows through parallel feeder
passage (22) to left travel control valve (58), swing control valve (59), and stick 1 control valve (60). Activation of any joystick and/or
travel levers/pedals also provides two paths for pump 1 oil. One path flows through center bypass passage (30) to right travel control
valve (56), bucket control valve (55), boom 1 control valve (54), and stick 2 control valve (53). The other path flows through parallel
feeder passage (31), bucket control valve (55), boom 1 control valve (54), and stick 2 control valve (53).

This control valve is used as a typical example for describing the operation of individual control valves.
When the joysticks and/or travel levers/pedals are in the NEUTRAL position, pilot oil does not flow to ports (65) and (66). Spool (68) is
centered in the NEUTRAL position. The hydraulic oil from the pump flows through center bypass passage (30) to the hydraulic tank.

passage (30) is closed and passage (72) becomes opened. Passage (73) is now connected to return passage (24).

Oil that is in parallel feeder passage (31) flows through load check valve (67), passage (74), and passage (72). The oil then flows to
passage (69). The oil flows into the cylinder head end, causing the cylinder rod to extend. When the cylinder rod extends, the

displaced oil in the rod end flows to passage (70).
081 07:
Oil flows through passage (70) to return passage (73), return passage (24), and back to the hydraulic tank.
