Rack actief: No errors available which cut the
DC output.
Error masterunit: Error present which cut the
DC output of the system. Possible errors can be
ACF (AC Failure), DCF (DC Failure), Interlock or
OT (Over Temperature).
Noodstop: Cut the AC power of the system.

The emergency stop on a rack, cut only the AC

power for that specific rack.
If you need to cut AC for all racks at the same
time, an external emergency stop is needed.
Refer to chapter 4.3. EMERGENCY CONNECTIONS
to check how to connect an external
emergency button.

!! WARNING !!
After an emergency stop, their will be no power
anymore on the DC connections.
On the AC side of the power supplies, energy
can be available for a few seconds (up to 30).
This is pecific to the power supplies and is
normal behavior (e.g. when in discharging
mode, the energy still needs to be dissipated
out of the power supply).

!! WARNING 1 !!
After switch off the rack, their will be no power
anymore on the DC connections.
On the AC side of the power supplies, energy
can be available for a few seconds (up to 30).
This is specific to the power supplies and is
normal behavior (e.g. when in discharging
mode, the energy still needs to be dissipated
out of the power supply).

!! WARNING 2 !!
When switch of the main switch, the
emergency and interlock circuits are still under
voltage.

4. How to connect the racks in parallel

4.1. General
See SM15K master/slave assembly kits manual. This doument describes how the parallel
connections of the power supplies within 1 rack have been made (please see the M/S PAR SET C9
section).

Flanders Make considers 1 rack as 1 channel. To be able to connect multiple channels (racks) in
parallel, nothing needs to be changed on the DC output, but the master/slave configurations will
need to be changed (normally there is 1 master configured per rack – always the middle (5th) power
supply, but when you connect multiple racks in parallel, only 1 master will be needed for all of the
racks; hence those that were configured as master in the other rack will need to be changed to slave
units). Also the ethernet connections to the master/slave modules in the back of the Delta units will
need to be connected to each other (that is why we have foreseen ethernet input/output cable
glands on the sides of the racks).

In the drawings underneath you can see how to connect the ethernet and emergency switches and
interlock switches for the different setups.

4.3. Emergency connections
An external emergency switch needs to be connected between contact 1 and 2 of X1.

WARNING: Between contact 1 and 2 of X1, a 230Vac voltage is available. Always connect these
contacts with the AC power plugs disconnected from the power grid.

If no external emergency switch is used, add a small bridge between contact 1 and 2 of X1.

If an external emergency switch is used for only 1 rack or for multiple racks in parallel, connect the
racks regarding this example:

4.4. Interlock connections
An external interlock needs to be connected between contact 3 and 4 of X1.

WARNING: Between contact 3 and 4 of X1, a 230Vac voltage is available. Always connect these
contacts with the AC power plugs disconnected from the power grid.

In a standard configuration, the relais output of the CAN controller, is connected in parallel to the
interlock input of the Delta power supply like in the next example:

If an external interlock is used for only 1 rack or for multiple racks in parallel, connect the racks
regarding this example:

Remarks:

- CC-X2
o CC = CAN Controller
o X2 = Connector X2 on the CAN controller
- The external interlock at the example is shown as a normally closed switch. Depending on
the application, a normally open switch can be used as well. For example a door contact.

5. Serial connection of the power racks

It’s not possible to use this model of power supplies in series.

6. Standalone usage of 1 single power supply
Remove all the connections from the DC output connectors (cables and DC bars) at the back of the
power supplies.

Disconnect all other connections on the back of the power supply as well.

7. Start-up procedure
1) Optionally, an external emergency stop can be connected. If you want to use this, the
emergency stop must be connected to every rack which is connected in parallel. Check
chapter 4.3. EMERGENCY CONNECTIONS in the manual to find more explanation on how to
connect the emergency stop (note that there is 230V on the emergency stop). If you want to
connect an external emergency stop, make sure the AC input connectors to the racks are
unplugged.

2) If you wish to use more than one rack in parallel, then make sure to correctly connect the
ethernet cables to the master/slave modules (M/S2 modules) at the back of the Delta
Elektronika power supplies. For more information on how to connect these ethernet cables
correctly, please refer to chapter 4.2. MASTER/SLAVE ETHERNET CONNECTIONS in the manual. If
you only use one rack, then the middle power supply will act as the master. If you use more
than one rack in parallel, then the middle power supply of one of the used racks will act as
master for that parallelly connected configuration.

3) If the racks will be controlled via CAN, check that the CAN bus connection to the controller is
made from the rack where the master power supply is located. The connection to the CAN
bus can be made by bringing in a CAN communication cable through the bottom of the rack
and then connecting it to the CAN controller.

4) If the racks will be controlled via ethernet/LAN, then you need to ensure that you have an
ethernet connection between the controlling computer and the master's management port.
As the Delta power supplies all have a fixed (static) IP address, it is recommended to also
give the controlling computer a fixed IP address in the same range (best 192.168.1.50 or
higher). The connection to the master power supply can be made by bringing in an Ethernet
cable through the bottom of the rack.

5) On the DC side of the rack, the DC ON/OFF rotary switch should be turned on so that the DC
power of the power supplies can be turned on.

6) Make sure that the doors on the DC side are closed (because the door contact will shut
down the AC side of the power supplies, preventing the power supplies from starting).

7) Connect the AC input connectors of the racks to the AC grid, and the DC connectors to the
DUT.

8) On the AC side, check whether the emergency stop needs to be released on the racks as well
as the external emergency stop (if one is used) and the main switch is on (this switch may be
off if an emergency stop has been activated).

9) Then turn on all the Delta power supplies via the rotary switch on front left side of the units.
This should be done in all the racks which are connected in parallel.

10) Make sure to correctly configure the Delta power supplies as master or slave units. This can
be done via the front panel of each power supply. The procedure to do this is clearly
described in the manual of the power supplies.

11) On the AC side of the rack you can switch on the CAN controller. This switch should only be
switched 1 minute after all of the Delta power supplies have been switched on and the
master/slave configurations have been made. Once the CAN controller has been started, it
may take up to 8 minutes before it is accessible for CAN communication.

12) If you want to meet Delta Elektronika's accuracy specifications, you should wait 1 hour
before using it. If this is not important, you can use the system immediately.

13) The doors on the AC side can be left open, but best remain closed during use for safety.

8. Shut down procedure

1) On the AC side, you first need to turn off the CAN controller switch.

2) Afterwards, switch off all Delta units. Note that when the power supplies are switched off,
current and voltage may still be possible on the AC side connector of the power supplies for
about 30 seconds. The DC output is immediately switched off when turning off the units.

3) After all of the Delta units have been switched off, then also switch off the main AC switch.

9. Numbering of the power supplies
Each of the 36 power supplies has a unique number. Each number contains two digits. The first digit
does indicate the rack number. The second digit indicates the number of the power supply in a rack,
counting from top to bottom.

10. IP addresses
The IP address of each power supply, is based on the power supply number.
The IP addresses are in the range of 192.168.1.xxx .
Where xxx is the number of the power supply.
The CAN controller of each rack has a 0 (zero) as last digit.

11. Calibrations
C.N. Rood is able to perform an onsite calibration of the Delta Power supplies and a functional
verification of the complete rack.

For Delta Elektronika, a Yearly calibration of the power supplies is not needed.
