Machine learning (ML)

Machine learning (ML) is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that involves training algorithms
to learn patterns from data and make predictions or decisions without being explicitly
programmed. It’s a transformative technology driving innovation across industries by automating
tasks, improving efficiency, and uncovering new insights.

Types of Machine Learning:

1. Supervised Learning: The algorithm learns from labeled data to make predictions (e.g.,
classification, regression).
o Example: Predicting house prices based on features like size and location.
2. Unsupervised Learning: The algorithm identifies patterns in unlabeled data (e.g.,
clustering, dimensionality reduction).
o Example: Segmenting customers based on purchase behavior.
3. Semi-Supervised Learning: Combines small amounts of labeled data with a large
amount of unlabeled data to improve learning accuracy.
o Example: Fraud detection with limited labeled fraud cases.
4. Reinforcement Learning: The algorithm learns by interacting with its environment and
receiving rewards or penalties.
o Example: Teaching a robot to navigate a maze.

Key Applications of ML:

 Data Analytics: Extracting deeper insights from datasets.

 Natural Language Processing (NLP): Enabling chatbots, translation, and sentiment
analysis.
 Computer Vision: Powering facial recognition, object detection, and medical imaging.
 Predictive Analytics: Forecasting trends like sales or demand.
 Recommendation Systems: Personalizing product or content suggestions (e.g., Netflix,
Amazon).

Benefits of ML:

 Automates complex tasks.

 Enhances decision-making with real-time predictions.
 Personalizes user experiences.
 Identifies patterns or anomalies not visible to humans.
