MS Paint

Introduction to MS Paint:

 MS Paint is a simple graphic editing software included with all versions of Microsoft
Windows.
 It allows users to create, edit, and manipulate graphics such as drawings and images.
 It is primarily used for quick, simple editing tasks like cropping, resizing, and
drawing.

Interface Overview:

 Title Bar: Displays the name of the program and the file you're working on.
 Ribbon: Contains various tools and options organized into tabs like "Home" and
"View".
 Canvas: The blank area where you draw or edit images.
 Status Bar: Displays information such as zoom percentage and dimensions of the
image.

Basic Tools:

1. Pencil: Used for freehand drawing.


2. Brushes: Various brush styles for different types of strokes.
3. Eraser: Removes parts of your drawing.
4. Fill Tool (Bucket): Fills an area with a selected color.
5. Text Tool: Allows you to insert text into the image.
6. Shapes: Includes preset shapes like rectangles, circles, and lines that can be drawn on
the canvas.
7. Color Picker: Lets you select a color from the image to use in other tools.
8. Magnifier: Allows zooming in and out of the image for detailed work.

Common Functions:

 Drawing & Sketching: Use tools like the pencil, brush, or shapes to create basic
drawings.
 Image Editing:
o Resize: Change the dimensions of an image by pixels or percentage.
o Crop: Remove unwanted parts of the image.
o Rotate/Flip: Rotate the image by 90°, 180°, or flip it horizontally or
vertically.
 Color Selection: You can select two colors simultaneously (color 1 for foreground,
color 2 for background).
 Undo/Redo: Easily undo or redo the last action using the buttons on the toolbar.

File Formats:
 MS Paint supports common image file types, including:
o BMP (Bitmap)
o JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
o GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)
o PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
o TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)

Saving and Opening Files:

 Save: Save your work in various formats (BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF).
 Open: Load existing images for editing or modification.

 Transparent Selection: Select an area with transparent background.


 Zoom: Zoom in or out to work on detailed parts of the image.
 Gridlines: Enable gridlines for more accurate drawing.

Uses of MS Paint:

Activity 1: Drawing a Simple House

1. Open MS Paint and start a new canvas.


2. Use the Rectangle Tool to draw the base of the house.
3. Use the Triangle Shape or Polygon Tool to draw the roof above the rectangle.
4. Add a small rectangle for the door and a couple of squares for windows.
5. Use the Fill Tool to color the house, roof, door, and windows with different colors.
6. Draw a circle or sun in the sky and add grass or trees by drawing shapes or using
freehand tools.
7. Save the image as "My House."

Activity 2: Create a Smiley Face

1. Select the Ellipse Tool and draw a big circle for the face.
2. Draw two smaller circles inside the face for the eyes.
3. Use the Arc Tool or Freehand Brush to create a smiling mouth.
4. Use the Fill Tool to color the face yellow and the eyes white with black pupils.
5. You can add eyebrows or accessories like a hat by using the Pencil Tool or the
Brush.
6. Save the file as "Smiley Face."

Activity 3: Create a Digital Collage

1. Open MS Paint and search the internet for some simple clipart images (such as
flowers, animals, stars).
2. Copy images from the internet and paste them into the MS Paint canvas.
3. Resize or rotate the images to arrange them into a collage.
4. Add a colorful background using the Fill Tool.
5. Draw additional decorative elements using the Brush or Shapes.
6. Save the collage as "My Collage."

Activity 4: Design a Birthday Card

1. Use the Rectangle Tool to draw the card's base.


2. Use the Text Tool to write "Happy Birthday!" at the top of the card.
3. Add decorative elements like balloons, stars, and confetti using the Brush and
Shape Tools.
4. Color the balloons and decorations using the Fill Tool.
5. Experiment with different brushes to add designs like stripes or dots.
6. Save the image as "Birthday Card."

Activity 5: Use the Color Picker and Fill Tool

1. Open any existing image in MS Paint.


2. Use the Color Picker Tool to pick a specific color from the image.
3. Then, use the Fill Tool to change the color of different parts of the image.
4. Practice picking various colors from different areas and filling the image with new
colors.

Activity 6: Create a Custom Shape

1. Use the Polygon Tool to draw a custom shape, like a star or irregular figure.
2. Use the Fill Tool to color the shape with a solid color.
3. Add decorations to the shape with the Brush Tool or Pencil.
4. Save the custom shape as "My Shape."

Activity 7: Pixel Art

1. Set the Zoom to maximum to work on a small section of the canvas.


2. Use the Pencil Tool to draw individual pixels and create a simple pixel art image, like
a heart or a smiley face.
3. Fill in the pixels with different colors using the Fill Tool.
4. Zoom out to see the final pixel art creation.
5. Save the pixel art as "Pixel Art."

Activity 8: Draw a Nature Scene

1. Draw a large rectangle for the sky and use the Fill Tool to make it blue.
2. Draw clouds using the Ellipse Tool, and fill them with white.
3. Create trees by drawing rectangles for trunks and circles for leaves.
4. Add a sun using the Ellipse Tool and fill it with yellow.
5. Add a path or river using the Brush Tool or Line Tool.
6. Save the nature scene as "Nature Scene."
