Lesson 6 – Presenting

Lesson 6: Presenting
Introduction
In this lesson learners will plan a presentation for their slides. They will then
present their slides to the class or a smaller group. Finally, learners will evaluate
their work against the rubric.

Learning objectives
● Plan how to deliver a presentation
● Explain your work to others through a presentation
● Evaluate your work against a rubric

Preparation
Subject knowledge:
You should be able to support learners in presenting their slides in a clear and
concise manner. Learners need to evaluate their work and may need some
support in their self-assessment.

You will need:


● L6 Slides
● A1 Activity sheet – Presentation planning
● Rubric

Assessment opportunities
Activity 1: Learners are able to plan what they will say in a presentation.
Activity 2: Learners are able to speak about their slides, explaining the
decisions they made.

Starter Presenting your slides

(Slide 2) Display slide 2. Ask learners to write down ideas for what makes a
good presentation and what makes a good presenter.

(Slides 3–4) Show slide 3 and introduce the lesson objectives.

5 mins Display slide 4 and discuss what makes a good presentation. Ask
students for suggestions and highlight that presentations should be
simple, planned, and practised. Move the discussion on to what
makes good presenters. Ask learners to make suggestions and
highlight that good presenters speak clearly, look at the audience,
and smile!

Activity 1 Planning a presentation


(Slides 5–6)
Show slide 5. Explain to learners that they need to plan to deliver a
10 mins two-minute presentation on their slides. Learners may be able to use
their homework to help them. Outline that the presentation should
explain the decisions that were taken when creating the slides.
Provide learners with the planning sheet and tell them that they
should spend 10 minutes planning their presentation. Allow learners
time to complete the sheet.

When using the planning sheet, learners should be encouraged to


identify how their content could be used to secure safe online
working practices.

Display slide 6. Tell learners that they should now spend a few
minutes practising their presentation with a partner. Remind
learners that their presentation should only last 2 minutes and be
simple and clear.

Activity 2 Present
(Slide 7)
Display slide 7. Tell students that they are now going to present their
20 mins slides

Note: You will need to choose the most appropriate way to group
your students based on your learning environment and the cohort of
students. It is recommended that each learner presents to a small
group of peers as you move between the groups.

Remind learners that they should imagine they are presenting to the
charity and should act accordingly.

Activity 3 Evaluate
(Slides 8–9)
Show slide 8 and tell learners that they need to evaluate their work
5 mins against the rubric. They should review their blank slides and focus
on the branding. After that, they should review their example slides
and focus on the content.

Display slide 9. Provide learners with a copy of the rubric and allow
them time to evaluate their work. Learners should mark the
statements they feel they have met.

Plenary Working between applications


(Slide 10)
Show slide 10. Tell learners that over the course of the unit they
5 mins have worked between different tools to achieve a defined outcome.
Ask learners if they can name the applications they have used. Click
to reveal:
● Web browser – search engine and image searching
● Desktop publishing software – making a poster
● Graphics editor – recolouring logos
● Presentation software – making slides

Click the slide again to show the question asking learners how they
have moved text and images between applications.

Click to show “copy and paste” and “save and load”.

Tell learners that they have focused on working safely online and
that this has been achieved through using multiple applications.

This Show slide 11 and recap the activities of the lesson.
