Preparation
Blog sharing:
If your students are creating their blogs with online software such as Google Sites,
Microsoft Sway, or Wordpress, then you will need to be familiar with how to create share
links to their work that, as a minimum, make their work accessible for the teacher and
other learners to be able to view. For example, if you are using Google Sites, you may
need to ‘Publish’ the site to make it visible to others.
The lesson includes a template for the learners to share the links to their blogs. They will
need access to the template for the starter activity.
You might consider making the links publicly accessible so that learners can share their
blog with friends and family, but this will be a consideration for your setting.
The advantages of making these share links are that you can assess learners’ work
digitally, and at the start of the lesson, the other learners can see each other’s work for
inspiration.
Assessment opportunities
The assessment for this unit is in the form of a multiple choice test. If you would like
learners to complete this test as a handwritten test, a template is available. Alternatively,
learners could complete the test digitally using self-marking software (Google Forms,
Microsoft Forms, Socrative, Diagnostic Questions, etc.).
Outline plan
*Timings are rough guides
When you’re ready, move to slide 3. The aim of this activity is for the learners
to share their work.
● If the learners are sharing their blogs using online software such as
Google Sites, Microsoft Sway, or Wordpress, show the learners how to
make the share links and how to access the document in which they will
post their links
● If the learners are sharing their blogs using desktop software, then it
may be useful to create an area on the network in which learners can
save their blogs
After learners have shared their blogs, allow them 5 minutes to look at their
classmates’ work for ideas and inspiration.
(Slides 5–6)
If they have not done so already, ask learners to open their work and peer
20–30 mins feedback documents from the last lesson to remind themselves of what was
said.
Ask the learners if they need any reminders about using the software.
Note: If any common themes for software support emerge during this activity,
there is time to get small groups together to demonstrate how the software
works on the board while the rest of the learners continue working.
Show the assessment rubric on the board and remind the class about the key
sections, so that they understand what their blogs need to include.
Allow the learners 20 minutes to finish their blogs. As the learners have already
shared their blogs (during the starter activity), the learners should not need to
submit their blogs again once the time is up.
Note: It may be useful to have two colours of sticky notes that the learners can
use. This allows the learners to keep thinking of more and adding to the board
if they need to.
If time allows, try to categorise the notes as they are stuck on the board, and
read some out to the class.
