Task instructions:

This work comprised of two parts- Part A and Part B

Part A

In this part of the assessment task, you are required to prepare a report recommending the type of server
environment you would setup for the client brief. A report template is provided for reference which you can use to
create your report.

In this part you need to create an installation and configuration report that include details of the operating system,
system requirements, protocols, server roles, folder structure, access permission and handling of user data and
backup methods.

You will need to complete the following tasks:

1. Provide a short overview of the server environment you are recommending and why this environment best suits
client needs. You are required to detail the technical specification of hardware, Software & Operating system and
compatibility issues involved. For the environment described above document the following information:

a. operating system
b. server role/s
c. disk partition structure
d. server protocols installed
e. domain names
f. Server IP addresses.

3.Document a preliminary folder structure for the server and indicate who will have access to which folders.

4.Document any security issues and concerns.

5.Develop user instruction and documentation that provides the end users /staff instructions to help them be more
successful with your implementation. You may include step-step instruction on how to access the server, how to
connect to server, Ip address, network drives that they have access to and information of any deployment and down
time expectations. Also include the Server status and e-wastage Strategies.

6.Obtain client feedback and approval.

Part B-Portfolio observation task.

In this part, you will need to set up a small network of a Windows server using VMware workstation Pro 16/17 for
the client brief provided. This part will be the implementation of the installation and configuration report you created
in Part A. You are also required to test server functionalities and finalise documentation and clean-up worksite. The
PRT SCREEN function can be used to produce your screenshots of the installation, configuration, and testing of
your server.

For this task, you will need to set up a small network of a Windows server 2019 using VMWare workstation Pro 16.

1.Install and configure the server operating system with the following specifications:

a. Install and configure the server as a primary domain controller.

b. Install AD and DHCP roles.
c. Configure the server as a DHCP server with at least 10 reserved IP addresses specified in the exclusion range.

2.Set up the Windows desktop client IP address to be 192.168.10.20 with the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

3.Set the default gateway as 192.168.10.2 with the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

4.Connect the workstation to the domain and test for connectivity.

5.Check for and if necessary, install any security patches or system updates to the Windows Server environment.

6.Using the server you created in above perform the following tasks.

a. Create two user groups. One called “Designers” and one called “Admin Staff”.
b. Create user accounts. One user in the “Designers” group and one user in the “Admin Staff” group.
c. Test that the users can access the network from a workstation.

7.Connect a printer to the server and share it with all users and groups on the network.

8.Create three folders on the server with names--“Design Files”, “Client & Staff Data”, and “Company
Documentation Templates” with the following security restrictions:

a. Only members of the “Designers “group can access the” Design files folder”
b. Only members of the “Admin Staff” group can access the “Client & Staff Data folder”
c. Both the “Designers” and “Admin Staff” can have access to the “Company Documentation Templates”
d. To these 3 folders all the users must have a mapped folder.
e. Set a quota of 200MB for each user.

9.Test and validate any changes or additions to the server environment.

10.Backup and Restore data from server and Desktop Computers to new systems accordingly.

11.Trouble shoot server and any network failures by carrying out performance testing using utility tools and seek
feedback on server performance.

Client Brief:

Design world is a small sized privately-owned design business in the southern suburbs of Melbourne.
It is currently employing 10 staff and managing all aspects of design work. The company has recently
raised a large volume of capital to invest in ICT infrastructure to meet demand for its services.

Currently the business runs a small peer-to-peer based network that allows a certain level of informal
sharing. However, this sharing is uncontrolled and occasionally things accidentally get deleted or
overwritten. The business needs some sort of centralised server-based solution and has asked you to
set up the environment. The business currently has 5 Desktop computers and 5 VoIP phones. The
Director of the company has another Personal Use Laptop which is also used in the network.

Recently, they received a massive project order, to design large 3D video campaigns for a community
hub to be delivered within a tight timeframe. They are looking to employ additional designers to help
complete the project on time. The new project requires at least new 6 staff members and high-speed
computers.

While they upgrade the infrastructure, the Director of the company decided to restructure the network
infrastructure as from Fast Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet LAN. As part of the infrastructure upgrade,
they are going to install and manage the Windows server 2019 environment. Moving forward, the
director decided to run virtual servers to cut the electricity bills and easy backup and recovery.

You have been tasked to implement the upgrade of infrastructure to client-server-based environment
for Design world. You need to make sure the existing data should be backed up and restored on the
new system. New Desktop computers should have all the required applications and the Antivirus
software is a must.
When you install and configure the new virtual server using VMware workstation, you need to have
minimum of two disk partitions to have operating systems on one partition and Data on the second
partition, also you must create users in the active directory to test the computers and permissions. All
the new desktop computers must be a member of the company design world domain. The Data
partition must have minimum 3 folders to have Design File, Design Software, and Documentation
Templates. Further to these 3 folders all the users must have a map folder. You can map the folder
using bat file.
