Assignment Electronics 2017
1. Design a voltage regulator using the circuit shown below. The voltage regulator is to power a car
radio at VL = 9 V from an automobile battery whose voltage may vary between 11 and 13.6 V.
The current in the radio will vary between 0 (off) to 100 mA (full volume).
2. A load draws between 20mA and 40mA at a voltage of 20V(DC). The available dc power varies
between 100V and 140V
(a). Design a voltage regulator using the following components
• Zener diode- regulates for a zener current of 5mA to 50mA
• Resistors- any size; any number
(b). The value engineering department has found an “equivalent” zener diode that can be
purchased for 70% of the cost of your original diode. This diode regulates for a zener
current of 3mA to 42mA. What effect on your design will the substitution have? Is a
redesign necessary?
3. . For the circuit shown below. The data sheet says that 𝛽 = 100. (a) Find V𝑡ℎ & R 𝑡ℎ for the base
circuit (b) Calculate VCEQ & ICQ.

ℎ𝑜𝑒 = 25 µ𝐴/𝑉. Compute the current gain AI, input resistance RI, voltage gain AV, and output
resistance Ro, using exact analysis and also using the approximate analysis
6. For the amplifier circuit shown in the Figure, calculate AV, Ri and Ro, given that 𝑅𝐷 = 2 𝑘𝛺,
𝑅3 = 20 𝑘𝛺, 𝑅𝑆 = 0.5 𝑘𝛺, 𝑅4 = 0.5 𝑘𝛺, 𝑅1 = 2 𝑀𝛺, 𝑅2 = 1 𝑀𝛺, 𝑔𝑚 = 2 𝑚𝑉/𝑉, and
