“Intellectual disability is a disorder which occurs with the onset of childhood |
and is characterised by limitations in intellectual functions such as reasoning
and learning and carrying out the functions of daily life.” Intellectual
disability causes difficulty in how a person plans, comprehends and reasons
Such people generally have low learning ability. As a result, they face
difficulties in communicating with others. They can neither understand what
other people say nor they can explain their own thoughts to other people.
Intelligence quotient (IQ) is measured by an IQ test. The average IQ of people
should be is between 90 and 110. The IQ of People with intellectual disabilit¥
is between 70-75 per cent or below. They face difficulties in reading, writing

1, Physical disability: Physical disability affects a person's ability to walk, run
or perform his/her daily chores independently! In other words, it affects a
person's mobility and manual skills! He/she often requires the help of some
other person or equipment (like wheelchair, crutches, etc.) to assist him/her
with mobility.
Physical disability may be caused due_to the following two factors:
(a)Genetic factors —_(b) Accrued factors
Injuries incurred during pregnancy or at the time of birth may lead to physical
impairment. Further, accrued factors like sudden accidents, any disease,
deadly infections or any disorder may also lead to a disability. Genetic factors
are also responsible for such disabilities.
Physical disability can be further categorised as:
(i) Musculoskeletal disability (ii) Neuromuscular disability
(i) Musculoskeletal disability: This may be defined as the inability of the
bones or muscles to perform the required movements. Such disability
may be characterised as:
