    HAT SCARF
    Using US 11 (8mm) needles and A, cast on 49 sts. Using US 13 (9mm) needles and A, cast on 21 sts.
    1st row (wrong side) P1, [k1, p1] to end. ** Knit 4 rows.
    2nd row (right side) K1, [p1, k1] to end. 1st row K2, [k2, p1, k1] to last 3 sts, k3.
    3rd row P1, [k1, p1] to end. 2nd row K2, p1, [p1, k1, p2] to last 2 sts, k2.
    2nd and 3rd rows repeated form rib. 3rd row K2, [k1, p1] to last 3 sts, k3.
    Work in rib until work measures approx 3¼in/8cm, ending 4th row K2, p1, [k1, p1] to last 2 sts, k2.
    with a wrong side row. 5th row K2, [p1, k3] to last 3 sts, p1, k2.
    Change to US 13 (9mm) and B, work as follows: 6th row K3, [p3, k1] to last 2 sts, k2.

    Continue in patt until work measures 8¼in/21cm, ending with Bind (cast) off knitwise.

    FINISHING
    Shape crown Press/steam garment using ball band as a guide.
    Next row [K2tog, p1, k1] 12 times, k1. Make 8 tassels 4 in each color and attach 4 to each end of
    | 37 sts. scarf as shown.
    Next row P1, [k1, p2] to end.
    Next row [K2tog, k1] 12 times, k1.
    | 25 sts.
    Next row P1, [p2tog] 12 times.
    | 13 sts.
    Break off B leaving a long tail.
    Bind (cast) off by threading tail through rem sts, draw up and
    fasten off.

    FINISHING
    Press/steam garment using ball band as a guide.
    Join back seam reversing half the rib for turn back.
    Using A, make a large pompom and attach to top of hat.
