Eiken Basics
Let’s learn how to write short answers for Eiken! You will need six
sentences:

Introduction【意見】 Opinion (I think…) 2 sentences!

→【理由1】Reason 1 (First…)

→【具体例1】 Extra explanation

→【理由2】Reason 2 (Second, Also, In addition…)

→【具体例2】Extra explanation

You will have “points” you can use for your reasons.

Conclusion【結論】Repeat your Opinion (This is why I think…) No new ideas!

In total, you will need between 80 - 100 words.

Transition words
To connect each part, you can use transition words. They help you transition
(move) from one part of your answer to another.

Introduction In my opinion, I believe, I think…

First idea First, First of all, Firstly, One reason…

Second idea Second, Second of all, In addition, Additionally, Furthermore…

Example For example, In fact, Specially…

Conclusion Because of these points/reasons, To conclude, In conclusion, In

summary, overall…

【Topic】

Young people love playing computer games, and this may even be their favorite hobby. Do you think it is
okay for young people to play computer games? POINTS: health, friendship, stress

I think that playing computer games too long is bad for young people. It hurts their development in many ways.

First, when they spend all their free time in front of a video screen, they do not build their own muscles, and their
eyes get weak. Their bodies do not develop.

Second, they cannot learn how to get along with other young people, because they do not spend any time playing
together face-to-face. It makes their social skills poor.

Because of these points, young people should not play computer games until they grow mentally and physically
enough.
