1. About
primtech DT Test Version 1 was a great international success. We gained valuable feedback on
how to improve the usability, so that everyone from 8-80 can use primtech DT. Also, we received
very valuable feedback about new technical requirements. All in all, we are now proud to release
the new primtech DT Test Version 2 to our community.

What is new in Test Version 2?

New Features:
• primtech DT now speaks four languages: German, Englisch, Spanish and French
• Phase simulation and switching of electrical devices
• BIM Collaboration Assistant (BCA) for managing BCF issues in primtech DT and
primtech 3d

primtech DT is our answer to many of the open questions in digital transformation:

• How do we solve the chaos resulting from file-based data models with uncontrolled copies
and versions?
• How can we effectively leverage the data that substation designers and engineers have
created into company value streams and into operations and maintenance?
• How can we create simple access (intuitive and easy to use) to all relevant substation data
for everyone?
• How can we add a communication layer in the VR environment?

Demo Models

2. primtech DT Demo Models

We have provided a few sample demo models (called Snapshots) for testing primtech DT. The
Snapshots named “Global” are in the metric unit system and the Snapshots named “US” are in
the imperial unit system.
For two models, we have also provided some sample linked data sets. The linked data is stored
in the correspondingly named Windows folders.
Important: The linked data is only accessible in primtech DT if the .prdts file and corresponding
linked data set folder are in the same Windows parent folder, like this:

• Snapshot_Twin_Substation360ImperialEdition_US_primtechDT.prdts (incl. linked

sample data)
o A huge US style substation that was rebuilt in primtech 3d by importing
different CAD files (Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit) and combining several design
approaches. The intent was to evaluate the model size limits of primtech 3d.
Spoiler: It was no problem for primtech
• Snapshot_Twin_DemoExercise_Global_primtechDT.prdts (incl. linked sample data)
o Our well-known primtech Demo Exercise Model.
• Snapshot_Model_Metropolis_Global_primtechDT.prdts
o A German transmission Substation that was captured using laser scanning
technology and rebuilt with primtech OSR - our AI-based software solution for
Scan-To-BIM. You can see how it works in this video.

Once primtech DT is installed on your machine, simply open the desired model with a double click
in your Windows File Explorer. Once primtech DT launches, you can also load new Snapshots from
within primtech DT.

3. For primtech 18 SP6 Users

primtech users, who have installed primtech 18 SP6, can create their own primtech DT Snapshots
with one click on the DT Logo. primtech DT will automatically open after some processing time.

3.1 Error warnings in primtech:

In case some layers or objects are not properly designed, primtech will show you a warning and
highlight the objects that caused the warning. The AutoCAD Command Line will show you the list
of errors. It is suggested to fix these errors first. primtech DT will try to correct errors on the fly,
but it is still recommended to fix the primtech 3d model.

The following error messages can occur:

• Negatively scaled entity
• Invalid entity
• Unreadable entity

3.2 Layer definition in primtech 3d

3.2.1 Terrain
Terrain Layer needs to be assigned to a 3D solid. primtech DT interprets layer name as material.

3.2.2 Trees and Bushes

Layer needs to be assigned to a 3D solid. 3D Solid defines position and height of the plant.
Extension of the solid is not relevant. primtech DT interprets layer name as a plant.
primtech Layer and assigned Material in primtech DT:
• pr_tree_A Broadleaf tree
• pr_tree_B Conifer tree
• pr_tree_C Bush with airy leaves
• pr_tree_D Bush with filled leaves

3.2.3 Reed grass

Layer needs to be assigned to a 3D solid. 3D Solid defines position and size of one plant.
Recommended values: Length=2500, Width=2500, Height=1200 (metric system mm)
Each plant must be positioned separately. In primtech DT, the grass sways in the wind.

3.2.4 Additional modelling Guidelines

Avoid coplanar surfaces
• Surfaces should never be congruent with each other
• Congruent surfaces create a flicker

Most MEP objects are supported by primtech DT

3.3 Phase simulation

To use the Phase Simulation in primtech DT, as in the picture below, your primtech 3d model
needs to follow the primtech 3d modelling guidelines. This includes using the correct bridging
distance, using bridges/switches or opened/closed contacts for the electrical devices.
Some older electrical devices from entis might not automatically work in the primtech DT Phase
Simulation. In this case, the entis symbols need to be converted to a project symbol and the
electrical functionality needs to be added.

3.3.1 Bridging distance

primtech DT uses the same distance for bridging the phases between two objects as entered in
the primtech 3d “Phase check Settings”.

3.3.2 Disconnectors
The opened and closed Disconnector arms need to have the correct layer definition. For the
opened disconnector arms, use the “Disconnector Top View” and for the closed disconnector
arms the “Disconnector View”. Disconnectors with this layer configuration can open and close
the disconnector arms in primtech DT when the Phase Simulation is running and you press the
letter “E” when looking at the device.

3.3.3 Circuit breakers

For circuit breakers, the electrical connection within the devices can be added in the project
symbol. Circuit breakers with this configuration can open and close the circuit breaker in
primtech DT when the phase simulation is running and you press the letter “E” when looking at
the device.

3.4 BIM Collaboration Assistant based on open BIM standard BCF

The primtech BIM Collaboration Assistant (BCA) is using the open BIM standard BCF (BIM
Collaboration Format) for managing BCF issues. The BCA is available in primtech DT and
primtech 3d and automatically synchronizes the BCF issues. The BCF Issues can include a view
position and direction, a screenshot with markups, an audio recording and text.
The BCA provides three different roles:
• Creator: The current user who is creating the BCF issue
• Owner: The owner is responsible for the resolution of the BCF issue
• Assigned to: The assigned to person is operationally responsible for the resolution

3.4.1 BCA in primtech DT

In primtech DT, the BCA can be opened through the primtech DT menu or by pressing F3.

When creating a primtech DT snapshot, the BCF information can be included in the snapshot for
sharing.

4. Requirements
primtech DT has some basic software and hardware requirements. If you do not fulfill them, you
might run into issues or might not even be able to start it.
Some requirements depend on the model size you are trying to load in combination with the
feature you want to use. Depending on that, you might experience lower performance.
To create your own primtech DT Snapshots, you will need primtech 18 SP6 on your client. Just
click on the DT Logo.

4.1 PC Requirements
You need at least Windows 10 (64 Bit). The program requires 1 GB of free storage. Your graphics
card is required to support Direct X 11 and we strongly recommend a minimum display
resolution of 1920x1200.

4.2 Recommendations
primtech DT is designed to run on almost any hardware. So, almost any computer will be
capable of running primtech DT. Let us know if your hardware is causing limitations to the
smooth running of your primtech DT .
If you want to use primtech DT with VR-glasses, you need to ensure that your computer has the
required hardware and drivers.

4.4 How to use primtech DT

When you start primtech DT for the first time, you are asked to start the Tutorial. We suggest
going through the interactive Tutorial and learn about the functionality.
With a right click, you can go to the help menu and access the Tutorial again.

5. Installation
Before installing primtech DT Test Version 2, you must uninstall your previous primtech DT
Test Version 1.
We provide an MSI installer for the new primtech DT Test Version 2:
• InstallationFile_primtechDT_TestVersion2.msi

Admin privileges are required to install the software.

By using primtech DT, you agree to the primtech DT End User License Agreement.
