Building a positive parent-teacher partnership is a collaborative and
continuous
process that plays a vital role in a child's educational journey. It means open
communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the child's academic
and personal growth. Together, parents and teachers create a supportive
environment
that encourages the child to thrive and aim to be successful in their overall school
journey.

Based on your school experiences, can you list ways in which positive relationship
present between parent and teacher?

Think and ponder. What happen when there is no positive relationship between
parent and teacher?

According to Webb (2013), one of the most profound experiences we can


have
in our lives is the connection that we have with other human beings. Positive and
supportive relationships will help us feel healthier, happier, and more satisfied with
our
lives. Every relationship we have can teach us something, and by building positive
relationships with others, we will be happier and more fulfilled and feel more
supported, supportive, and connected. The relationship between teacher and
parent affects the learning of the students. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the
teacher and parent to develop a relationship with one another.
PRACTICAL WAYS ON HOW THE TEACHER CAN BUILD POSITIVE PARENT-
TEACHER RELATIONSHIP
1. Greet Parents when you see them.
- Say hi/hello whenever you come in contact with parents.
2. Declare Your Intention.
- Tell them that you want to partner with them, that you appreciate their
support, and look forward to working together.
3. Communicate often.
- Provide information about what is going on in your class.
4. Praise them for what their child does best.
- Give positive praise first before discussions.
5. Use appropriate language when communicating
- Context in which you communicate might be disrespectful to parent.
Be sure not to assume the life of the family
6. Show concern for child.
- Ask about what the child likes and dislikes. What is their hobby? Who
are their role models? Those type of question that helps you to know
the child better.
7. Listen to Parents.
- Parents may be the best person to help you out when comes to getting
to know their child better.
8. Give parent survey.
- When you give the parent this survey it helps the teacher to get to
know the child better.
9. Smile at the Child.
- When talking to a parent in front of a child, smile and make eye
contact with the student to demonstrate that you care him/her.
10. Recognize the child.
- Recognize the child in front parent for what he/ she has done well in
your class.
11. Invite Parents to Share.
- Allow parents to share what they have observed about their child. Both
the good and bad.
12. Let Parents Know How They Can Help.
- There is always some way that parents can help in the classroom.
Make sure to let them know they can whenever they want to
13. Be Very Specific.
- Provide ways parents can support their child at home.
14. Take parents concern into consideration.
- When they show concern always be able to facilitate their concern.
15. Thank Parents.
- Both individually and publicly for their support. Recognize what they do
to help your class and how it's impacting students.

compromise. There are given practical ways to build a positive parent-teacher
partnership, and these should be considered so parents and teachers can work
together to create a supportive and nurturing educational environment for the
child.
