1.0 SCOPE

This specification states the requirements for heat-shrinkable high temperature PPS 120 sleeves
to be used for corrosion protection of girth welds on polypropylene (PP) coated pipelines which
operate at temperatures up to 120°C (248°F).

2.0 DESCRIPTION

The PPS 120 system is composed of a PPS120 sleeve, made up of a radiation cross linked
backing coated with a high temperature crystalline adhesive, a tie-layer S1135 adhesive strips
for the PP line coating and a glass fiber reinforced S1401 epoxy tie-layer onto the installed
sleeve ends.

The S1135 adhesive strips are applied on top of the three layer PP line coating at the cutback.
The adhesive coated sleeve is then wrapped around the pipe. Heat applied with a standard
gas torch allows the sleeve to shrink tightly onto the steel surface. The glass fiber reinforced
S1401 epoxy tie-layer is applied on top of the sleeve ends, giving the system excellent soil
stress performance

Installation of PPS120 system should be done only by Raychem certified, well equipped
installers. Contact Tyco Adhesives Technical Services Department prior to start-up.

4.3 Materials

4.3.1 The PPS120 system consists of a wraparound sleeve PPS120, S1135 tie-layer and S1401
glass fiber re-enforced 2- component epoxy.

4.3.2 The sleeves, type PPS120 shall meet all requirements specified in Table I.

4.3.3 PPS120 Coating

The inner surface of the sleeves shall be coated with a controlled thickness of an adhesive
which shall bond to and seal to the steel pipe.

4.3.4 PPS120 Backing

The PPS120 sleeve and closure backings shall be fabricated from a thermally stabilized,
ultraviolet resistant, semi-rigid polyolefin and shall be radiation crosslinked. The backing of the
sleeve and closure shall be homogeneous and free from flaws, defects, pinholes, bubbles,
cracks and inclusions.

4.3.6 S1135 Tie-layer

The S1135 tie-layer adhesive shall be supplied as strips and shall be wrapped
circumferentially around the polypropylene line coating edges at the cutback.

4.3.8 S1401 Re-enforced 2- component epoxy

The primer is a solvent free, modified epoxy type primer, re-enforced with a glass fiber
structure, which is applied to installed PPS120 sleeve edges.

4.3.7 The installed and fully cured PPS120 system, shall meet all requirements specified in Table I.

5.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS

5.1 Responsibility for Inspection

The supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection tests specified herein. The
supplier may utilize his own or any other inspection facility and services acceptable to the
buyer. Inspection records of the examination and tests shall be kept complete and available.
The procedures to be followed shall be in accordance with the Tyco Adhesives Quality
Assurance Manual.

5.2 Classification of Inspections

5.2.1 Qualification inspection shall consist of examination and tests to determine conformance with
all applicable requirements of this specification.

6.0 PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY

6.1 Packaging

Packaging shall be in accordance with good commercial practice.

6.2 Marking

Each box or container of PPS120 sleeves, S1135 strips and S1401 primer shall be
permanently and legibly marked with the lot number, and the manufacturer's identification.

6.3 Storage

PPS120 sleeves and S1135 strips shall be left in the supplied box or container and stored in a
sheltered dry location until ready for use.
Shelf life of S1401 primer is 2 years if stored at the recommended conditions.
