Position Location: The position is a full-time


contract at the Department of Nutrition and
Dietetics, schoor of
Public Health' College of Health sciences,
Addis Ababa University, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
from the woreda
project site with biweekly travel to study
sites
Term of emproyment: 7 months with the possibirity
of extension
Salary: As per the project scale

Location: Oromia region

Required number: 20 for oromia (6 for Chiro,


3 for East Hararghe (Babile), 6 for East Hararghe
(Meta), 2 for East
Hararghe (Kurfa Challie), and 3 for East Hararghe
(Fedis) woreda)

Project description

The world Food Programme (wFP) Ethiopia,


in collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia, is piloting
alternative methods for managing Moderate
Acute Malnutrition (MAM) in children aged 6-59
months and
pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls
(PBWG). while Ethiopia's guidelines recommend
RUSF and super
Cereal Plus' global supply challenges for specialized
Nutritional Feeding (sNF) have created gaps. To
address this,
wFP is exploring innovative approaches, including
voucher or cash-based treatments and nutrition
baskets with
family foods.

The project includes a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare


cash/voucher schemes with sNFs,
supplemented by qualitative studies, economic
evaluations, and market analyses. Skilled data
collection is vital
to ensure accurate, reriabre, and ethicar evidence
for informed decision_making.
Job Overview

The Data collectors will be responsible for


conducting high-quality data coilection at study
sites, ensuring
adherence to the study protocol, maintaining
ethical standards, and collaborating effectively with
health
extension workers (HEWs), the SCOpE register;
and the woreda nutrj
Duties and responsibilities

1. Technical and Research Support

e ParticiPate in mandatory training to understand the study protocol, tools, and methodologies.

Provide support and guidance to Health Extension workers (HEWs) on community mobilization, MAM
Day activities, and screening for the management of Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).

Screen and identify eligible participants (typically children aged 6-59 months and pregnant
or lactating
women)for MAM treatment based on standardized anthropometric criterir and research protocol.
o Strengthen community mobilization to ensure wide coverage and participation in screening for acute
malnutrition.
o lmplement feedback and recommendations from study coordinators to ensure alignment with
study
objectives and protocols.
2. Data Collection and Management

o Collect data from participants according to study protocols using questionnaires and other data
collection tools accurately and consistently.
o Travel to the study site biweekly to collect and record data from participants.

o Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors, HEWs, ScopE register, and the woreda
nutrition focal person to ensure smooth data collection operations.
r Conduct home visits when required for follow-ups or,participant verification.
o Ensure participants are given prior information about their appointment or follow-up dates, before
the
ad mission/follow-up a nd voucher d isbursement date.
o Ensure all data collection equipment and materials are properly maintained and used according
to
instructions.
o Report issues and challenges encountered during data collection to the supervisor promptly.

3. OperationalSupport
o Facilitate smooth communication and coordination with key stakeholders, including supervisors, HEWs,

and the woreda nutrition focal person.

r Perform other related duties as required to support study implementation and ensure timely completion

of tasks.
r Ensure participant safety by addressing or reporting sa by participants to the
responsible sta keholders.

Job Requirements

1,. Educational Qualifications


o A minimum of Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Nutrition, or related health fields.

2. Experience

o Previous experience in data collection related to health and nutrition programs.

o Experience working on surveys and Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)


programs, with an emphasis on community engagement and reporting, is ah advantage.

a Experience with mobile data collection tools such as KOBO toolbox and ODK Collect is desirable.

3. Skills and Competencies

a Proficiency in using Android devices and digital data collection tools.

Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Proficiency in local languages (spoken and written).

o Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders such as HEWs, SCOPE registers, woreda focal
persons, supervisors, a nd resea rch coord inators.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding field environment.


a Basic understanding of data collection methodologies and tools.

4. Personal Attributes

a Must be a local resident of the target area.
